Did Someone Forget Jesus?
43Ye have heard that it hath been said,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44But I say unto you,
Love your enemies,
bless them that curse you,
do good to them that hate you,
and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good,
and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?
do not even the publicans the same?
47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others?
do not even the publicans so?
48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

What times in your life have you applied Jesus’ instruction and loved an enemy? Was it difficult? What were the results?

Some taggers sprayed painted my whole pickup with gang writing and I caught them and told them that I could be mad at them but I think that their souls are worth more than my pickup truck. I tried to clean the paint off while praying and singing praise songs to the Lord. I was difficult to love these guys (teenagers) but I thought about Jesus Loving us while we are still sinners. The results of forgiving these guys were awesome to my soul and gave me a peace beyond understanding. Praise God!! I also think this happened because I didn’t walk across the street and share Jesus with them at an earlier time…

This passage that is found Matthew 5:44, the Greek word for love is Agape. A love God gives to His people. Its not natural to the flesh. The beauty is that God give us the ability love to our enemy. If you are compelled to pray and care for your enemy, Praise The Lord!! God is doing a great work in you!!

I STRUGGLED with an incident where a close friend became an enemy. I capitalize “struggle” because it was extremely difficult to work through and overcome the anger and threatening bitter root. The result of overcoming the anger is peace in my own personal life and the ability to reconcile with such a person without anger or bitterness. The slate is wiped clean and I am able to begin again. God’s agape love is free of any anger or bitterness toward those sinners He calls His own. He takes us to the next step and has “philia” love relationship with us. This love is not required of us toward our enemies. This is a more emotional type love and we obviously would not have this relationship with people who continue to call us their enemies. Prayer is the tool needed for unlocking and allowing “agape” love to flow toward those we hold as enemies.

I have to say that verse everyday of the week to my self. With the MEN I work with in the department I am in. And some days it is really hard. Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who Hate you, and pray for those who perscute and misuse you. It’s so hard to do.
