Does your accountability include ultimate accountability to God? (105-3)

Does your accountability include ultimate accountability to God? (105-3)

Accountability is always in a leaders own best interest regardless of the degree of inconvenience it may entail.

Read 2 Kings 12:1-3 and 2 Chronicles 24:15-25.

As a one-year-old, Joash, a prince in Judah was rescued during an assassination attempt. He was smuggled into the temple and raised and taught by the priest Jehoiada for six years and then brought to the throne as Judah’s king through a daring plan devised and carried out by Jehoiada. Joash never forgot the kindness of the priest and allowed Jehoiada to hold him accountable as long as Jehoiada lived. According to 2 Kings 12:2, “Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him.”

After Jehoiada’s death the king allowed other influences into his life and according to 2 Chronicles 24:18, “They abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and worshiped Asherah poles and idols. Because of their guilt, God’s anger came upon Judah and Jerusalem.” Joash fell so low that when Jehoiada’s son Zechariah prophesied that the nation would not prosper because they had forsaken the Lord, Joash had him killed. When a leader refuses to be accountable there is not a limit to what they are capable of doing to satisfy “self.”

Leadership accountability between peers is extremely beneficial as long as both parties realize that their ultimate accountability is to God. Apparently, Joash neglected to acknowledge and live by that truth.

Do you currently have someone to whom you are voluntarily accountable? Do you have individuals that are accountable to you? Have you determined in your heart and communicated to your accountability partner that ultimately you both are accountable to God? Effective leaders don’t make the mistake Joash and Jehoiada made concerning ultimate accountability.

2 Corinthians 5:7, 9-10 “We live by faith, not by sight… So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

LastCall: The fact is, we need each other -Harvest Online

February 1st 2010

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

—Acts 2:42

A few weeks ago, Pastor Jeff Lasseigne wrote about the importance of consistent Bible reading throughout the year. Last week, Pastor John Collins discussed how important prayer was in the life of a believer.

This week, I would like to tell you of the importanceof fellowship.

It was Donald Grey Barnhouse who said,

“The church of Jesus Christ is not a building where people come together for a religious service, but it is a gathering of people who come together in order to worship God and to build each other by mutual faith and strength.”

Scripture commands us to:

·        Be devoted to one another
(Romans 12:10)

·        Honor one another
(Romans 12:10)

·        Live in harmony with one another
(Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

·        Accept one another
(Romans 15:7)

·        Serve one another in love
(Galatians 5:13)

·        Be kind and compassionate to one another
(Ephesians 4:32)

·        Admonish one another
(Colossians 3:16)

·        Encourage one another
(1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13)

·        Spur one another on toward love and good deeds
(Hebrews 10:24)

·        Offer hospitality
(1 Peter 4:9)

·        Love one another
(1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 3:11; 3:23; 4:7; 4:11-12)

The fact is, we need each other. Christian fellowship is a key aspect of the Christian life. Believers in Christ are to come together in love, faith, and encouragement. That is the essence of fellowship.

You already know about our Sunday morning and evening services and our Wednesday evening study, but did you know we have a myriad of smaller studies at and around the Harvest campus? From our men’s and women’s Bible studies, to our small groups, to The Well (college and careers), to the Singles Ministry, there is a ministry and study available for everyone in the Harvest community.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us to “consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

So let’s all get involved in fellowshipping with one another. After all, we will all spend eternity together!

May the Lord richly bless you!

Sincerely,

Pastor Brad Ormonde

LastCall: Be clothed with humility -Bob Hoekstra

Humility and Grace

Be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5)

We have considered that humility and faith must be developing within our lives, if we are going to grow in grace. Let's take a few days to reconsider both, looking first at humility. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Pride leads the list of things that God despises. "These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue" (Proverbs 6:16-17). God wants our lives to be edified; pride is destructive. "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18). The Lord desires that people be established in truth; pride is deceptive. "The pride of your heart has deceived you" (Obadiah v. 3). It is God's will that we grow in things that are honorable; pride brings disgrace. "When pride comes, then comes shame" (Proverbs 11:2). Our Lord does not want His name dishonored or our lives destroyed by pride.

On the other hand, humility is a character trait that God loves to develop in us. Note the terms God uses in His word to describe humility. "Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud" (Proverbs 16:19). The Lord reveals that it is better to be a humble person, who associates with modest people, than to partake of the wealth that the arrogant can often accumulate.

Also the Lord says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:3). Here we are told that humility is a blessing, because the kingdom (the spiritual realm of God's rule and provision) is given to the humble.

Elsewhere God revealed, "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones" (Isaiah 57:15). Although our Lord is most fully revealed in His heavenly abode on high, He also dwells with the humble and the broken on earth below, bringing them spiritual revitalization.

Of course, we cannot manufacture humility. It is a relational reality that results from getting to know the Lord. Isaiah discovered this. "I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up…Then I said: 'Woe is me, for I am undone'!" (Isaiah 6:1, 5). When the Lord was revealed in all His glory, Isaiah responded in profound humility. This can happen in our lives, as we get into the Scriptures, seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord. As He is increasingly revealed to us, our response will be increasingly characterized by more humility.

O God Most High, I repent of those many times when pride was the despicable attitude I displayed. Lord, teach me to despise pride as You do. Stir in my heart a growing appreciation of humility. I desire to be clothed with humility. I humbly seek You afresh that I might live by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

One Thousand Years: Genesage "Global Impact Report" One Continent (Chp3:2)

One Thousand Years

Genesage

"Global Impact Report"

One Continent

(Chp3:2)

The False Religious Leader[i], False Religion[ii], False Messiah[iii] and Fallen Angel[iv] Himself had raised the City of God[v] to the ground.

The Great Synagogue[vi] had been destroyed before it ever had been finished.

The restored Temple was never fully restored, the Old City no longer evident.

The Abominable Desolation[vii] had come. Every stone turned over, some cast as far away as the sea.

Evil influences had tried to remove any remembrance of what existed before.  It was a last ditch stand against God Almighty.  An attempt to foil what God said would occur.

It failed; man failed; the world system failed; banks failed; technology failed; wars failed; religion failed; all that man had made, failed.

God succeeded.

What man had made was irrelevant to what God was doing. Gods’ Will was accomplished irrespective of man. God did not “need” man in any capacity.

God was God, man was not.

All Mountains leveled.  Seas disappeared. The world became once again “ONE CONTINENT.”

No water surrounding it, the sky had changed its tint and hue. Plagues, dead algae, ore from “Wormwood” killed the oceans. They dried up. Irradiation, contamination, devastation changed the landscape.

Appearances of alien celestial beings suspected as the UFOS was nothing compared to the intervention of demonic activity set free on humanity when the pit was opened. The Greatest Devastation the World had ever known occurred all within a three and half year period with those who had wanted God to damn, satisfied. He did and moreover.

Those who had said IF there was a God let him reveal himself were not disappointed when a dimensional reality shift revealed the heavens to man.  He headed for the hills to hide in.

All that had ever been accused at God was silenced.

God came back at man with his own response:

Judgment.

The Love of God constraining him and the actions of the Son containing him, God did not utterly destroy the earth…, yet, He came as close to annihilating as it could come and still recover.

But only by the Son could it recover.

Cloud cover hid the world under a blanket. It was so beyond anyone’s vivid imagination or nightmare. The consequences were a world no one recognized. Somehow without the seas to shining seas and continents divided by water, the world was a different place.

It looked different, it smelled different, hit by the asteroid, it was different.

A foreign world. A foreign world and a foreign land with humanity as foreigners living in it. The aliens had indeed come and mankind found himself the alien in a world that hardly wanted him. A world that God had created in which creation wanted to know where the gardner went.

The One Land Mass was named Eretz[viii]

The Land or Eretz was not surrounded by Oceans or water anymore. They were gone.  But an arid dry decayed area where oceans once played. These were dusty sea beds resembling a moonscape where nothing grew. When the Asteroid Star Wormwood had hit, oxidation of metals and contaminant particles of the asteroid created dried lifeless ocean bed of dead mutated plankton. Turned orange the hue of the sky was gone as the oceans now were giant flatlands with slight depressions more desolate than the famed salt flats. Looking back when the moon was in orbit it would have been a great representation of what the earth’s oceans and seas beds looked liked now.

Centered roughly in the middle of the One Land, was Israel.  Its geo physical location in the Old World had been in the Middle East on the banks of the Mediterranean Sea. Since the continents had been smashed together by the tilting of the earth over on its axis and the devastating meteor strike, Israel was now the Center of the Earth[1].

Tectonic plates were all joined together again much like that had been thousands of years earlier. It had been a long time since the Land was One and the people, but in the Kingdom Come, God would restore His Order.

Since the Great Devastation had come upon the Earth, the only place spared was the Land of Promise, Israel. Nothing else remained.  Most of humanity had been annihilated. Traces of technology were all but obliterated. Remnants of landmarks crushed. Cataclysmic events on earth left few human beings alive. Had God not stopped death from occurring no flesh would have survived.

The Apocalypse had come.

For whom the bells toll had tolled.  It was obvious “who for” by their absence. The bells had marked the end of humanity as man had known it.

It had felt like the End of the World.

It had looked like the End of the World.

Everyone who was there was convinced it was the End of the World[2]. It was not the End of the World; some people had survived.

Refugees of the World from the world that was, now being moved into a world they knew nothing about.

Israel's boundaries had greatly expanded.

All other kindred’s, tongues, nations and tribes were wiped off the face of the map.

They were no more.

They did not exist.

They could not even be recognized by landmarks as even the axis of the earth was different.

Jerusalem was rubble.

Every stone cast down.

All the land overturned.

Hardly recognizable, the King initiated his Kingdom there.

As had been done for centuries, the City of God was destroyed.

It would once again be rebuilt. A heap would become a home. A place of scorn; the center of blessing.

Man’s Rule was undone, God’s Will was begun.

The former things had passed away, all was becoming new.

It would be the City of the Great King[3]. What it was now was merely the foundation. Manmade rubble the Chief Cornerstone, as he once was called, stood in the midst thereof. The Cornerstone upon the rubble.

Beginning in Jerusalem moving outward the process of causing the Nation, the "Land", and the peoples to birth again was started.

Started by He who had come to dwell in the midst of his people; “Immanuel”.

Israel as well as the whole Earth would be Born-again for One Thousand Years.

It was a new beginning, a Genesis Age.

LastCall: What's the Temperature of Your Heart? -Melody Green

What’s the Temperature of Your Heart?

by Melody Green

(Note: originally published 2/13/09---the day before Valentines Day!

Where did January go? It’s a question I always ask myself around this time of year.

We’re already 6 weeks into 2009. I know that for sure because everywhere I go there are big red hearts reminding me it’s almost that day.  February 14th, Valentine’s Day.

(Above: LDM Vintage Art - click on art to enlarge)
Valentine's Day is a day when couples declare or reaffirm their love for each other, with gifts from the simple to the elaborate. Valentine cards go out in every direction -- to parents, children, grandparents, friends, brothers, sisters, and even pets.  It has become a day to tell all those you love, that you do.

It can be a wonderful day as long as it’s not the only day you express your feelings --  like people who only remember God on Christmas and Easter in hopes of staying in His good standing. In that case, words and gifts of love are only hollow reminders of what’s not really there.

However, this message is not meant as a poke about getting it together for Valentine’s Day. Rather, it’s about taking note of how far into 2009 we already are.

Like most of you, I pray about new or ongoing goals every year -- things I feel God wants me to focus on both spiritually and in the practical.   Also like many of you by mid-February I’ve either failed or compromised some of my best intentions and feel like an utter failure -- especially with the things directly regarding my walk with the Lord.

However, I’ve been thinking... perhaps the “love fest” around Valentine’s Day might also serve as a mid-February reminder of something else.  No.  Someone else.

I Pledge My Heart

I was an adult the day I pledged my life and love to God, so I can remember the exact moment.  I was trembling with fear and excitement at the same time.  Since then I’ve sung, “I am my Beloved’s and He is Mine” countless times. I’ve managed to follow Jesus for three decades or perhaps I should say He’s not let me go in that amount of time. Still I can’t honestly say I’ve spent everyday purposefully drawing closer to Him. What about you?

We are in a time of history when more than ever we must draw closer to God.  The enemy (helped by our apathy) has woven his way into society in a charming yet alarmingly cunning way.  Good and evil aren’t as easy to discern as they used to be.  Now the bad guy often rides the white horse -- and can sound convincingly reasonable anf fair-minded..

I’m not talking about any person in particular, but rather the worldly views and the “tug of wrongs” that have become socially acceptable.  These things are voiced eloquently by some of the biggest and brightest. Many of them espousing tolerance as the highest road, while believing biblical morals and values are mostly silly and prehistoric. Also that the people who believe in these things are, well -- rather dangerous.  I’ve heard this shocking opinion on the "respected" news channels more than once.  Where might this be heading?

The Greatest Love of Our Life?

Our relationship with God is the most important love relationship in our lives.  Everything else springs from it. This is not a time to coast along. There are battles raging and we need to get with it.  Our past spiritual experiences and teachings, as solid as they may have been, are not going to fuel our spirit for today ...or tomorrow.  We need to be actively growing in our walk with God. Pressing in to find out what He’s doing on earth today so we can be involved with the things on His heart now.

That’s exactly what someone in love does.

When people fall in love their two hearts become strongly bonded, almost like one ...especially in the beginning.  They often finish each others sentences. If they don’t stay deeply connected all their lives, they won’t notice, or even care, as the shifting winds of change and emerging interests, arise in the hearts of their loved ones.  We need to stay tuned-in to stay in love.

That’s exactly how to stay in love with God.

God does not change in character or nature, but He does emphasize different things in different seasons.  He is not static, but dynamic and always on the move unfolding His ultimate destiny for mankind.  God has an action plan outlined in the Bible, and admittedly it’s a bit difficult to understand sometimes.  So we need to stay tuned-in, keep watch, study, ask the hard questions and keep pressing in for a deeper intimacy with Him.

We do need at least some understanding of what God is up to today. We should also know what His enemies are saying and doing -- so we can cooperate with the Lord in the battle.  He might want to hand out new assignments to some of us.  If we're not connected we won't notice.

If we’ve made a pledge to follow Him it’s our responsibility to keep pace, so we can move when He does.  It may not be a physical move -- but we need to pray in an informed and strategic way .  Our prayers need to be in alignment with God’s focus for the earth today.  This is of course different than our personal prayers for our needs and those we love.

So What's The Temperature of Your Heart?

Let’s examine our love life with the Lord -- and take our temperatures.  Are we hot -- vibrantly pressing in, pursuing, and growing?  Have we cooled down since the honeymoon -- still together, warm but nonchalant, doing just the minimum to get by?   Are we cold -- not together anymore, not pretending, don't care?

We already know our temperature matters to Jesus.  He was clear about it. He wants us to be passionate, fiery hot for Him.  To genuinely love Him back.  The polar opposites are the cold...who  blatantly reject God's ways, and therefore His love.  And the lukewarm?  Well, they make Him utterly sick enough to puke.  Jesus knows exactly what to do with the hot and the cold.  However the lukewarm, well, they turn His stomach and I imagine cause Him pain everyday. Think about being married to someone and just pouring out your life for them, but they take you for granted, stop trying to know your heart, and could care less about how they make you feel.  Painful.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor not.  I wish you were either one or the other!  so because you are lukewarm -- neither hot nor cold -- I am about to spit you out my mouth." (Rev. 3:15-16 NIV)  I think this was an incredible statement for God to make to those He loves.  But on the day each of stand before Him, our temperature will be apparent.  However, we never need to fall into the lukewarm category.  We don't have to hurt God by being so near, yet so far away.

We can all decide to go deeper with God from whatever point we're at right now.  If you're cold decide to get warm, with the intention of getting hot.  If you’re lukewarm, decide to get hot. If you’re hot -- get even hotter!  Jesus deserves nothing less because He loved us first.  Let’s this Valentine’s Day provoke us to go deeper, further, more passionately into the heart of God.  We can cultivate a greater intimacy with Him.  It's not a matter of works.  It's a matter of the heart.  A heart of love craves intimacy with the ones it loves.

Time. Talk. Touch.

Loving God is the most important love relationship in our lives.  Similar to an earthly marriage, intimacy develops over time and is made up of three elements. Time, talk, and touch.  On some levels we probably all need to develop deeper intimacy with the Lord.

When we love God we’ll spend time with Him.  We’ll talk to Him.  We’ll listen to what He wants to say to us.  We’ll ask questions to find out more than we already know.  We’ll read all the love letters He wrote to us over and over -- each time trying to see if we can find something new and wonderful, a greater meaning or implication.  We’ll touch God’s heart by caring about what He cares about, and by doing what He asks us to do.  We touch His heart when we receive His love.  We also touch God’s heart when we receive His correction  Time. Talk. Touch.

I Am My Beloveds and He is Mine

Without genuine intimacy with God it will be hard to stand firm in the coming days... or decades.  We desperately need wisdom and discernment to avoid being swept away by the unsound doctrines of men.  There are so many wrong ideas, sounding way too logical.  We have to keep our edge. None of us are beyond being deceived. If we are leaning on the arm of our Beloved we’ll remain strong and focused, even in the most treacherous of times -- personally or globally.

We are definitely in a season when our hearts need to fiery hot and growing in the spirit of wisdom and revelation.  This is the only way we'll have the courage and discernment we'll need to stay strong. Let’s pray for this and press into God to have it.  And if nobody on earth has told you lately that they love you, rest your head on Jesus’ chest and hear His heart beating just for you.

He is our Savior. Our Redeemer. Our Friend.  I took my temperature and it needs to go up.  What about yours?

Your Fellow Struggler,

LastCall: Where can I go from Your Spirit? -Bob Coy

OMNIPRESENCE

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? Psalms 139:7 (NKJV)

Have you been sucked into the phenomenon known as Google Maps yet? It really is remarkable. With just a few clicks, you can get a bird's eye view of just about anywhere in the world. Technologically, it's an amazing advance for mankind. But practically, it really can't do much else. You can look at another county, state, country,or continent, but it doesn't actually allow you to be there. You can only be in one place at one time, and as long as you're using Google Maps, that one place is sitting at your computer.

Now take a moment to mull this over: God is always everywhere. He is always present, or the term we frequently employ is omnipresent (omni meaning all). There's not a square inch on this planet (and there are 1.96 x 100,000,000,000,000,000 of them on land alone) where God is absent. But beyond that, there's not a single square inch in the entire universe (the number would fill out the rest of this page), where God isn't present.

God is absolutely everywhere, always, and He expresses His omnipresence quite poignantly in the Book of Jeremiah: Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?" says the LORD: "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" says the LORD. (Jeremiah 23:24 NKJV)

But God's omnipresence isn't just impressive, it's also comforting. One of the last things Jesus did for His followers before returning to heaven was to point them to His omnipresence by promising, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). No matter where we might be in this world, it's encouraging to know we're always in the midst of God's presence.

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
