LastCall: Prophetic Blessings Upon Joseph -Bob Caldwell

Prophetic Blessings Upon Joseph

 "By the God of your father who will help you, and by the Almighty who will bless you With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb." -Genesis 49:25

When Israel comes to the blessing that is to be pronounced upon Joseph, he describes Joseph's life as a living proof of the almighty power of God. God has shown Himself to be unlimited in His ability, a caring Shepherd, and a solid foundation stone.

The blessings for Joseph are described as so great that they rise up above the "utmost bound of the everlasting hills." These are the type of blessings we all would love to have from God. But there's another part of Joseph's life we must not forget. His blessings from God were preceded by some of the most difficult tests and hardships imaginable.

We would all do well to remember both. It is during trials that our character can be molded so we will not later become corrupted by the blessings God sends. May God give us grace and faith to embrace the transforming power of trials, seeing these difficulties of life as the raw material to prepare us for blessings that will exceed our wildest expectations.

Genesis 49:13-28

 13 "Zebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea;
He shall become a haven for ships,
And his border shall adjoin Sidon.

14 "Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying down between two burdens;

15 He saw that rest was good,
And that the land was pleasant;
He bowed his shoulder to bear a burden,
And became a band of slaves.

16 "Dan shall judge his people
As one of the tribes of Israel.

17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way,
A viper by the path,
That bites the horse's heels
So that its rider shall fall backward.

18 I have waited for your salvation, O LORD!

19 "Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him,
But he shall triumph at last.

20 "Bread from Asher shall be rich,
And he shall yield royal dainties.

v. 13 Zebulun – This refers to the location of the tribe after their entry into the Promised Land. The term translated "by the haven of the sea" seems to be better rendered "toward the haven of the sea." The border of Zebulun was about 10 miles from the sea, with the tribe of Dan having territory between Zebulun and the sea.

v. 14 Issachar – This tribe is referred to as a strong donkey and destined to servitude.

v. 16 Dan – They will produce strong leaders over their tribe.

v. 17 Be a Serpent – This refers to Dan being a deadly opponent with regard to his enemies.

v. 18 Your Salvation Oh Lord – It seems Jacob pauses and acknowledges God's strength to complete this lengthy prophetic declaration while upon his death bed.

v. 19 Gad – This tribe would be surrounded by Nomadic tribes from the Arabs, Ammonites, and Midianites. There would be many conflicts with these groups, but Gad prevailed until the Babylonian captivity.

v. 20 Asher – This tribe would populate the coastal regions north of Carmel, reaching to Sidon. They had very fertile land and became financially prosperous because of it. They provided a yearly quota of bread for the palace (1 Kings 4:7).

21 "Naphtali is a deer let loose;
He uses beautiful words.

22 "Joseph is a fruitful bough,
A fruitful bough by a well;
His branches run over the wall.

23 The archers have bitterly grieved him,
Shot at him and hated him.

24 But his bow remained in strength,
And the arms of his hands were made strong
By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob
(From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),

25 By the God of your father who will help you,
And by the Almighty who will bless you
With blessings of heaven above,
Blessings of the deep that lies beneath,
Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

26 The blessings of your father
Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors,
Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.
They shall be on the head of Joseph,
And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.

27 "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf;
In the morning he shall devour the prey,
And at night he shall divide the spoil."

28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing.

v. 21 Naphtali – This tribe would be known for its oratory. An example of which are the words by Barak and Deborah (Judges 5).

v. 22 Joseph is a Fruitful Bough – This speaks of Joseph's present condition.

v. 23 Shot at Him – This refers to the troubles Joseph encountered from his brothers as well as from the events in Egypt prior to his exaltation.

v. 24 The Shepherd – This presents God as the protective and providing source for those who walk with God.

v. 27 Benjamin – Seen as a wolf to convey the courage and boldness of this tribe even though they were the smallest of the tribes.

LastCall: Lack of Faith -Raul Ries

Lack of Faith

“And I said to you, ‘You have come to the mountains of the Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us. Look, the LORD your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the LORD God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.’ ”

Deuteronomy 1:20-21

Notice, God is giving them the land. If He was giving them the land, why was God encouraging them? They lacked faith. The people were always discouraged due to a lack of faith. Do you know what they had already done? They had sent 12 men in to spy out the land. What is that, unbelief? You bet. They should have just gone in. They should have trusted God.

How many times do leaders say, “Well, let me just fly in and check out the place”? Is that faith? No. How many times have you questioned something God has told you and confirmed in His Word?

If God spoke to you and God called you, then you better go. You better do what God says, not what people tell you to do, but what God speaks to you.

Do not allow unbelief to limit your walk with God. Do not allow unbelief to cause disobedience in your life.

Unbelief is not failure in intellectual apprehension.
It is disobedience in the presence of the
clear commands of God.

One Thousand Years: Genesage: "D and E Z" (Chapter 10:7)

One Thousand Years

Genesage

“D and E Z"

(Chapter 10:7)

An uneasy friendship grew as no matter how hard D had pushed E Z away….he kept coming back.

And Delilah was persistent, you would think after twenty years or so of abuse someone would have given in. Stupid or not he was persistent too. That alone was new to her. As stubborn as she was, he appeared to be just as stubborn, maybe more so.

He did have some good qualities; she was just unwilling to admit any of them to herself or anyone else. Besides, she was too old for him. Of course when she admitted it to herself, she never felt so young in all her life. She felt…, if she would have admitted it, if it had been in her vocabulary, fertile was the feeling.

An odd way to describe a state of being.

Ezra never told her how he felt. She only speculated on his true intents but like a puppy dog that keeps coming back, Ezravivor had a crush on Delilah. Over the decades becoming  increasingly obvious to both of them.  Unrequited love is sometimes the most pure. Or so it seems to the one feeling it. The worse she treated him, the more he cared.

He never left.

She knew how he felt though. Ezravivor had never been forthright about it or mentioned it to anyone, but she knew.

Even as she knew that Caleb also had expressed an interest in her. Of course Caleb seemed so much younger…..smarter maybe….maybe a little immature, but certainly not dumb. Two men…well boys really…both “interested” in her in ways she probably knew better than they did.

Oh yes, She knew lot more than they did.

So many things had changed for her from her old life to her new one in the Kingdom of God. Now new feelings were emerging she wasn't sure what they were. She didn't want to know, tried to suppress them, but they did continue to grow. In her old world pure love or innocent love was unheard of. Everyone knew what “love” was.

Or what they called love which really was lust.

Delilah knew that. She had indulged a time or two, or maybe more than she wanted to admit. She had even experienced the “good side” of the Old World…, and of course they were the nightmares…,

Sometimes Ezravivor was just plain stupid and dumb and kind of….cute. In a stupid sort of way. She wasn’t familiar with this kind of “attraction” or feeling.

Yet here he was again,  Ezravivor who more often than not irritated her for no reason. No reason at all.

He was handsome enough. Tall and fair skinned, somewhat physically in shape with a physique that suggested somewhere he was lifting and doing strenuous labor. She imagined he had a “six pack” as the old expression had gone, but robes left much to the imagination.

She had never seen him “disrobed” or anyone else in the Kingdom for that matter. She even blushed at times when she thought about it. Thank God He never knew WHY she blushed now and then.

He really was naive.

As far as his brother was concerned he seemed wiser but would act childish at all the wrong times. Still as two brothers go, Ezravivor and Nehevivor both were strong enough. Delilah had talked to Nehevivor occasionally knowing full well that later the two would wind up scuffling, and it was always Ezravivor who started it.

Even though she instigated it.

That was Ezravivor; intelligent around others, he was often tongue tied and seemingly shy around Delilah.  When she spoke Ezravivor  certainly had no meaningful thing to say. Any time he did speak he seemed, well, stupid.

Most times she spoke he said nothing at all which in her case was perfect.

He appeared as though he were listening. Perhaps that was his best quality…he seemes like he was listening.

But between the two brothers, Ezravivor and Nehevivor, they would argue and for those who had watched them, neither seemed to make sense. Both were stubborn enough to not let the other have the advantage. Their arguments never led into a wrestling match per se but Delilah suspected Ezravivor would win.

They did scuffle though.

Ezravivor had a sensitive side…, and he listened at times.., thought Delilah.

Or at least his silences made him appear he was listening. She was never quite sure which was true. After a few years she didn’t care which applied.

She would never admit it to herself, but even puppy dogs had a way of wearing you down…..or out.

Something about the pathetic that touched Delilah’s heart.

LastCall: Someone to Show Them the Way -Greg Laurie

Someone to Show Them the Way

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
—Romans 10:14

In Acts 8 we find the story of a foreign dignitary from Ethiopia. As the queen's treasurer, he was a powerful man who would have traveled with an entourage. He went to Jerusalem in search of God, but found dead, lifeless religion instead. However, he obtained a scroll of Isaiah while he was there. And as it happened, he was traveling through the desert, reading aloud about the suffering of the Messiah, when God led Philip to go to him and share the gospel.

Philip saw him traveling along, reading from Isaiah's scroll. So Philip walked up to him and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" (verse 30). The man said, "How can I, unless someone instructs me?" Philip climbed up into the chariot, took the scroll, told him what it meant, and pointed him to Jesus. And before the day was over, that man had become a believer and left with joy in his heart and a spring in his step. This is what people are still looking for today: someone to show them the way.

There is one thing that Christians and non-Christians have in common: both are very uptight about evangelism. Christians are uptight about evangelizing, and non-Christians are uptight about being evangelized. But I think some of us give up way too easily. When we ask someone if anyone has ever told them about Jesus, or if we invite someone to church and they say no, we give up too easily. Instead, try asking, "Well, why do you say that? Did you have a bad experience in church?"

God has primarily chosen to reach people through people. So engage them, and most importantly, keep praying for them. Give it a try, and you will discover what a joy it is to tell others about Jesus.

LastCall: David's Rise to Fame -WoW The Big Picture

David's Rise to Fame

1Samuel 17:1-26,31-51; Psalm 40:11-13; Proverbs 12:3

Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and were gathered together at Sochoh, which belongs to Judah; they encamped between Sochoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and they encamped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up in battle array against the Philistines. The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with a valley between them.

And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had bronze armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before him. Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, "Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us." And the Philistine said, "I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together." When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse, and who had eight sons. And the man was old, advanced in years, in the days of Saul. The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone to follow Saul to the battle. The names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. David was the youngest. And the three oldest followed Saul. But David occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

And the Philistine drew near and presented himself forty days, morning and evening.

Then Jesse said to his son David, "Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves, and run to your brothers at the camp. And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers fare, and bring back news of them." Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle. For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army. And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers. Then as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines; and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid. So the men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and give his father's house exemption from taxes in Israel."

Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him. Then David said to Saul, "Let no man's heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine."

And Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."

But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God." Moreover David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."

And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"

 So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, "I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them." So David took them off.

Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!"

Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."

So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.

And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
1 Samuel 17:1-26, 31-51

WORSHIP

Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD;
Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
For innumerable evils have surrounded me;
My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up;
They are more than the hairs of my head;
Therefore my heart fails me.
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me;
O LORD, make haste to help me!
