Right and Wrong Matter More Than Life ~ Raul Ries

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

Matthew 16:25

In his book, Daniel, W.A. Criswell shared the following story: “Studdert Kennedy, and Anglican minister, pastor at Worchester and a chaplain in the first world war, a man who interpreted the Christian life for so many, wrote from the trenches in France to his son; ‘The first prayer that I want my son to learn to say for me is not ‘God keep daddy safe’ but ‘God make daddy brave and if he has hard things to do, make him strong to do them.’ Life and death don’t matter, my son. Right and wrong do. Daddy dead is daddy still, but daddy dishonored before God is something awful, too bad for words. I’d suppose you’d like to put in a bit about safety, too, old chap, and mother would. Well put it in, but afterwards, always afterwards, because it really does not matter so much. Every man, woman and child should be taught to put first things first in prayer, both in peace and war, and that, I believe, is where we have failed.’”

Stephen continues his defense ~ WOW the 7 minute Bible

Acts 7:20-8:3; Psalm 116:5-7; Proverbs 20:21

"At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father's house for three months. But when he was set out, Pharaoh's daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son. And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.

"Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian. For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand. And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, 'Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?' But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Do you want to kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?' Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two sons.

"And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai. When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying, 'I am the God of your fathers-the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses trembled and dared not look. 'Then the LORD said to him, "Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground. I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt."'

"This Moses whom they rejected, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the one God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush. He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

"This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.'

"This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us, whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt, saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets:

'Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness,

O house of Israel?
You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch,
And the star of your god Remphan,
Images which you made to worship;
And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.'

"Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen, which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David, who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob. But Solomon built Him a house.

"However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:

'Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the LORD,
Or what is the place of My rest?
Has My hand not made all these things?'

"You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it."

When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"

Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Now Saul was consenting to his death.

At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.

Acts 7:20-8:3

WORSHIP

Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
The LORD preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your rest, O my soul,
For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
Psalm 116:5-7

WISDOM

An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning
Will not be blessed at the end.
Proverbs 20:21

Preservation reservation ~ David McGee

2 Kings 19:1

"And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD."
NKJV

Life Lesson

We should make a commitment to come to church.

In the current times, many people are finding themselves in difficult circumstances... whether in their family, their finances or some other facet of life. King Hezekiah faced a huge crisis situation with the Assyrian army besieging Judah. His actions give us a wonderful model of what we should do when times turn tough. Read the verse above. What did Hezekiah do? He went to church.

Far too often, when Christians encounter difficulties, instead of going to the church, they seek comfort and counsel in the world. That, my friend, will only compound the problem and exacerbate the situation. Come to church. Worship God. Seek counsel from godly people. Pray. Don't listen to your enemy, the devil.

How big is your God? Now, how big is your problem? If you think your problem is too big for God to handle, you need to think again. God created the universe and He created you. He chooses kings and cuts down nations. I guarantee you that He will overcome your problems.

Psalm 121:7-8 "The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore." NKJV

Dear Father,
Thank You for Your love. Thank You that I do not have to fear or worry because You will preserve me. Though this world would seek to destroy me, You have surrounded me in Your love and protection. I love Your Salvation, Your Yeshua. I give to you every trouble in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jesus is Absolute Truth ~ Mark Balmer

Based on “Under HIS Influence – REALLY!!!” by Pastor Mark Balmer; 10/10-11/09,
Message #MB392; Daily Devotional #6 - “Absolute Truth”

Preparing the Soil (Introduction): This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:5-9) Only in God do we find absolute Truth and Light. I have heard that only about 6% of today's college students believe that there even is absolute truth. So much for that stupid gravity theory and that whole "we need oxygen to live" nonsense! Yet, through His creation and Word, God has provided the natural to confirm the supernatural. Only a supernatural being could have created our planet and every living creature that lives on it. If He says that we were created from the dust of the earth, and that the planet was spoken into existence by the words of His mouth, then that is Truth. Besides, that's much easier to believe than a random atom exploding in the atmosphere and evolving into life! Who can enjoy a beautiful sunset or a magnificent mountain range or walk along the beach, without admitting that Someone greater than ourselves created it? Even though God's Truths are sometimes difficult to understand, they are no less true. And just because we don't believe them, we should never make up our own truth to counter God's Word. As Christians, we have been blessed with the Light, and we should never let the darkness of man’s lies invade our Truth, no matter how logical or holy it sounds!

Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): One of the greatest lies that has invaded God's Truths is that we can manipulate God’s favor by our actions and provoke Him to love us more through our works. These verses in 1 John counter that lie by saying, "and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin." It is the blood of Jesus Christ, and not the grand acts of our flesh, that causes God to erase our sin! If we think that all of our good acts will outweigh our transgressions, then we have believed the lie of the enemy and are deceived! Granted, faith without works is dead, but faith and devotion must motivate our works, or they are in vain! Sadly, it is difficult for unbelievers, and some Christians, to rest in the cleansing blood of Calvary and enjoy God's grace. But the forgiveness of sin only through the blood of Jesus Christ is another one of God's absolute Truths and has been given to the world as a Gift. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): Another absolute Truth is that if we are speaking words of Life, then we will be identified with Christ, but if we are associating with darkness, then we are identifying with our enemy and speaking words of death. And, trust me, God knows the difference! We may be able to fool some of the people some of the time, but we will never be able to fool God! He knows, better than we do, that the "dark side" holds death and destruction, and that the Kingdom of Light promises abundant Life everlasting. Thus His stern warnings to wandering sheep! Hopefully, it will only take just one good thump of the Shepherd’s rod, to send us scrambling back to our own pasture and into the flock of our loving fold. But sadly, many of us have believed the lies and have been used and abused by evil shepherds, and have come back home in need of restoration and healing. And some of us are even too ashamed to come back home at all! But the best part is that it's never too late to come back into His pastures. If we find ourselves in sin, we simply confess our sins, and He will forgive us, again and again. He will personally take the time to heal your wounded heart and restore your soul! Because that's the only kind of Shepherd He knows how to be! And that’s the Truth!

Faith in Jesus is our security~Bob Hoekstra

An inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:4-5)

In our previous biblical meditation, we considered the delightful work of God's grace that brings to His children assurance of salvation through faith. "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:13). Assurance of salvation pertains to the certainty that we actually are saved. Another related work of God's grace is security of salvation through faith. Security of salvation pertains to the certainty that we will remain saved.

The Scriptures offer great confidence that our salvation is eternally secure. Jesus spoke of such security for His sheep. "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand" (John 10:27-28). Paul was inspired of the Holy Spirit to write of this grand theme. "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). What great security is available in Christ!

Yet, other Scriptures stir apprehension for some. "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit…if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance…For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 6:4, 6 and 10:26). Such verses certainly provoke debate on whether or not one can lose his salvation (or whether a willfully fallen, professing Christian was ever saved or not).

In light of this, where do we turn to settle eternal security? We must turn to the Lord in faith. The children of God have a rich salvation inheritance waiting in glory: "An inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you." Day by day, we can enjoy the blessing of being guarded by God's power for this salvation, if we are depending upon the Lord: "who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." Security of salvation is known through day by day faith in the Lord Jesus.

Lord God of my salvation, I praise You that eternal security is available in Christ through faith. At times, I have tried to find security of salvation through theological debates with others. Lord, I gladly trust you to keep me this day by Your power, Amen.

By Name! Again! ~ Bob Coy

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens all alone, who spreads abroad the earth by Myself . . . Who says of Cyrus, 'He is My shepherd, and he shall perform all My pleasure, saying to Jerusalem, "You shall be built," and to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid." -Isaiah 44:24, 28 (NKJV)

Yesterday we witnessed the amazing accuracy of biblical prophecy as God revealed the exact name of a king who would fulfill a prophecy 300 years before his birth. But the Bible doesn't just do this once; it does it again when we get to the book of Isaiah. Remember that the nation of Israel had split in two, the northern half (Israel) had been captured and overcome, and the southern half (Judah) was still standing on its own. At this point, God declared through Isaiah that a man named Cyrus would act on His behalf by allowing the people of Judah to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple. It must have been hard for Isaiah's audience to understand this because Judah's capital city of Jerusalem was still intact and well fortified, as was the temple within its walls. This was like getting a history lesson in advance. And then there's the prediction that someone named Cyrus would allow all this to be rebuilt.

Several decades later, the kingdom of Babylon came against Judah, destroyed Jerusalem along with the temple, and took the Jewish people who survived into captivity. They remained in Babylon for 70 years, until the Medo-Persian Empire conquered the Babylonians in 539 B.C. and allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Guess what the name was of the Medo-Persian king was? Cyrus!

Give history enough time and it will catch up to prophecy. In Cyrus's case, prophecy proclaimed what he would do for the Jewish people decades before he was born. History (both biblical and non-biblical) confirms this happened exactly as predicted. What an amazing prophecy! What an amazing proof! What an amazing God!

Discuss with your group the way God provides the right person for that which He wants to accomplish. Share an example of how God has raised up someone to be His instrument in a time of change.

Dig into Isaiah 44:24–45:7. Why would it have been hard for those in Isaiah’s day to understand that Jerusalem and the temple would be rebuilt? What does God say about Cyrus in these Scriptures? What is the purpose God declares in verses 5–7?

Decide as a group to step out in faith and serve. Find an outreach through your church or city that feeds the hungry in your community. Volunteer as a group to serve, then share with one another what you learned from the experience.

Simplify! ~ Chuck Swindoll

John 17

High-tech times lead to high-stress tension. The never-ending drive for more, mixed with the popular tendency to increase production and intensify involvement, leaves most folks in the workplace not only exhausted but dissatisfied.

Instead of Saturday being a change-of-pace day, it has become an opportunity to squeeze in a second job. And Sundays? A time for renewal and refreshment? You're smiling. No, it's the day most type-A high achievers start another to-do list in preparation for the new week.

Every time I officiate at a funeral, I'm reminded of the things that really matter . . . things that last. Stuff that seemed so all-fired important yesterday loses its steam when you stand on a windswept hill surrounded by weather-beaten grave markers.

At that moment, something within you cries: Simplify!

Jesus mastered the art of maintaining a clear perspective while accomplishing every single one of His objectives. Though we never read of His hurrying anywhere, He managed to fulfill the complete agenda. Just before the agony of the Cross, He told the Father that He had "accomplished the work which You have given Me to do" (John 17:4). And only seconds before He drew His last breath, He made that epochal statement, "It is finished" (19:30). Nothing essential was left undone.

I believe that a major reason for His being able to say those things was that He simplified His life. Jesus followed His own agenda instead of everyone else's. He set predetermined limits: He chose twelve (not twelve hundred) whom He trained to carry on in His absence. He maintained His priorities without apology. He balanced work and rest, accomplishment and refreshment, never feeling the need to ask permission for spending time in quietness and solitude. He refused to get sidetracked by tempting opportunities that would drain energy and time. He was a servant of His Father, not a slave of the people.

He was firm yet kind and gentle, quick to hear and slow to speak. The complexities that tie us into knots never complicated His life or cramped His style.

What's happened to us? When did we buy into all this hectic hassle that steals so much of the joy of just plain living? Who convinced us to feel guilty for taking time to balance work with play? Get off the treadmill and reorder your life. Go back three spaces and clean out the clutter that led to all this nonsense of busyness. Simplify!

How much longer will we keep adding nonessentials to our agenda? Simplify!

Shake it off! ~Joyce Meyer

Let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) . . . and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us.
— Hebrews 12:1

One of my favorite stories is about a farmer's donkey that fell into a dry well. The animal cried pitifully for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do for his poor donkey. Finally, he concluded that the well was too deep, and it really needed to be covered up anyway. Besides, the donkey was old, and it would be a lot of trouble to get him out of the pit. The farmer decided that it was not worth trying to retrieve the animal, so he asked his neighbors to help him fill in the well and bury the donkey.

They all grabbed shovels and began to toss dirt into the well. The donkey immediately realized what was happening, and he began to bray horribly. Crying would be our normal response if somebody was mistreating us this badly, so this donkey was responding the same way we would at first, but then he got real quiet. A few shovel loads of dirt later, the farmer looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit the donkey's back, the donkey would shake it off, and step on top of it.

As the neighbors and the farmer continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would continue to shake it off, and take a step up. Pretty soon the donkey shook off the last shovel full of dirt, took a step up, and walked right out of the well. We can learn so much from this story. When trouble comes, if we will get still and listen, God will tell us what to do.

By the grace and the mercy of God, I was able to shake off a lot of things in my life, a lot of hurt feelings, a lot of mistreatment, a lot of abuse, a lot of unfair, unjust, unkind things. Just like the donkey, in order to keep pressing on and have victory in our lives, we are going to have to learn to shake off the troubles that come our way.

We are one in the Spirit ~ Kay Arthur

Life in the the Spirit - part seven

Communion Of The Spirit

There‟s so many lonely people aren‟t there? And yet, you know what, Beloved, that‟s not life in the Spirit. Life in the Spirit is coming together enjoying the fellowship of one another, studying the Word of God together, being excited about what you are learning, finding out the needs of others and saying listen, I can supply that, I‟ve got one of those in my house, or listen you can have my outfit. This is what life in the Spirit is all about, sharing things together.

If you long for fellowship, my precious friend, then you need to get with others who are filled with the Holy Spirit. We‟re about to look at Acts, chapter 2, the fulfillment of Joel, chapter 3. And we‟re going to move from there into what it‟s like when a group of people are really filled with the Holy Spirit, when they understand what it means to walk and to experience that life in the Spirit.

Well Joel had promised and we don‟t know when Joel was written, but we know that it was long time before the children of Israel ever gathered on that day of Pentecost and all of a sudden there was a mighty rushing wind and cloven tongues of fire set on the heads of the apostles and they began to speak in other languages and the Jews around them that were from there, from all over the world, were hearing them speak in their own language. And they said to Peter, what is this? And Peter explained this is what was prophesied by Joel.

Let‟s look at it and let‟s go to Acts, chapter 2. Now I know we looked at this in the last program, but I‟ve got to put you into context, so be patient with me. In Acts, chapter 2, in verse 14 it says, “But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven raised his voice and declared to them, „Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you and give heed to my words. These men are not drunk as some of you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken of through Joel, the prophet. And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour forth My Spirit on all mankind.‟” (Acts 2:14-17)

Now that ought to cause us to stop and to say, oh, there‟s a time phrase in the last days. You know what? We‟re in the last days. We‟re in that final period of time, that final economy of God just before the coming of Messiah. The last days began with the coming of Jesus Christ the first time. The last days, in a sense, are going to be wrapped up with the coming of Jesus Christ the second time. And in the mean time and in between time what is it? It is life in the Spirit.

You say you‟re talking about fellowship. You don‟t know how lonely I am and I‟m a Christian. You don‟t know how I deal with my needs and how I long to have someone teach me, but everybody‟s too busy. That‟s a problem, isn‟t it? And that‟s not life in the Spirit. Because life in the Spirit always has to do with bringing the body of Jesus Christ together and that‟s what they‟re about to experience.

So as we look at it, then we‟ll be able to apply it and we‟ll be able, knowing truth, to do something about it. Remember now, we‟re studying inductively. We‟re going to the Word of God. We‟re marking the text to find out what it says. Well now, let‟s finish what Peter was saying to the group. It says, “It shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind.” (2:17) In other words there‟s not going to be a distinction between Jews and Gentiles and God is not going to play favorites.

Yes, from the days of Abraham, God has raised up for Himself, a chosen nation, an elect nation, a people of His own possession, a people that He might give His word to, a people that He might share His commandments with, a people that He might use to record His Word, a people that He might make covenants with, a people that He might use to bring the Messiah from. But now He‟s telling us in this verse, in seed form, that God is going to pour out His Spirit on all mankind.

In other words there will be people from every tribe, and every tongue and every nation who can experience life in the Spirit. It goes on to say, “I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even upon My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days ….” (2:17-18)

In what days? In these last days, these last days that began with the first coming of Jesus Christ, all the way through to the time when He returns again. “… I will in those days pour forth My Spirit and they shall prophesy.” (2:18) Then He makes this interesting statement and it‟s so important because He gives us a time frame in it. “And I will grant wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, fire and vapor of smoke.” (2:19) “The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.” (2:20)

And so what he‟s doing is, He‟s marking out this time frame and He‟s saying this is when I‟m pouring forth My Spirit and it‟s before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. And before that day will come you‟re going to see the sun turned into darkness. You‟re going to see the moon turned into blood. You‟re going to see blood and you‟re going to see fire and you‟re going to see vapors of smoke. You‟re going to see these things on the earth, wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth beneath. And it‟s very interesting because if you take these things and you go to the book of Revelation and you begin reading and you read about the trumpets and you look at what happens, you can see parallels to this passage right here.

And it‟s very interesting. You see when the sixth seal is broken then at that time the sun turns into darkness and the moon turns into blood. And so God is giving us an awesome insight into life in the Spirit and the days of the Spirit and how God is working in time in these last days. Well, as He says this, then He makes this wonderful statement, “And it shall be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” (2:21)

Now listen very carefully, there is no life in the Spirit if there‟s no salvation without the Spirit. The two go together and we‟re gonna see that and it so exciting for you to understand, because when you get saved you get the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you. In fact He is the marker, He is the identifier of every single child of God. Well, let‟s go on and see what happens.

He goes on in his message and he says, “Men of Israel listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs, which God performed through Him in your midst just as you know.” (2:22) Now he‟s speaking to men of Israel. Why? This is the day of Pentecost. This is Jerusalem. I mean the Jews are gathered there. He‟s not speaking to Gentiles at this point and you need to understand that. So as he speaks to these Jews he‟s saying you know who Jesus the Nazarene is. You know that He came from Nazareth. You know the signs and the wonders. You know the miracles. They were done in your midst. You saw them with your own eyes. “… this man …,” verse 23, “… delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God ….” (2:23)

Now watch this very carefully. When the movie, the Passion of the Christ came out, when Mel Gibson produced that movie, they had many, many news programs on it and they would interview Jews and they would interview Gentiles and they would interview people that said they were saved, and carried the name maybe, reverend or pastor or something like that and yet you listened to them and you wondered do you guys really know the Bible? Do you really understand or are you just a product of a seminary that has ignored the Word of God?

But they would ask and they would say do you think that this is going to create anti-Semitism? Anti-Semitism, which means anti-Jewish, it means that you hate the Jews. It means that you‟re opposed to the Jews. It means that you believe that the Jews should not exist. Talk about the classic anti-Semitic was Hitler. All right, so when you look at ant-Semitism, it‟s against the Jews. So they‟re saying okay, the church became anti-Semitic, the church came against the Jews because what they did during the crusades was they went into villages and, and cities and towns and they routed out the Jews and they held a cross in front of their face and they said, “you Christ-killer!” And then they put them to death if they wouldn‟t be baptized, if they would not believe on Jesus Christ, so to speak. But they didn‟t even say believe on Jesus Christ. They just said be baptized. Now what is that?

That is a group of people who are using the name of Jesus Christ, but have no understanding of what Christ is all about, what Christianity is all about. Because true Christians, listen to me very, very carefully; true Christians are not anti-Semitic. Because if you have the Spirit of God living inside of you, you have the Holy Spirit that moved with God the Father and God the Son in the forming of a nation called the nation of the Israelites, later called the Jews, later called the Hebrews, but it begins as the sons of Israel. You‟re not anti-Semitic.

Rather, when you meet a Jew, you are so grateful to them for their nation who brought us the Law, who brought us the commandments, who brought us the covenants, who brought us the Word of God, who brought us the Messiah. You say, but the Jews called for His death. Yes, listen to what he says. “This Man delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you …,” and he‟s talking to the men of Israel, “… nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men, through the Romans, and you put Him to death.” (2:23)

Now listen; stop and look at the whole context. The Jews, those religious Jews at that time, who had a religion, but not a relationship with God, were the ones that did not want Jesus around. Did God know this? Yes. Did God know that the Jews would put Him to death? Yes. Is God through with Israel? Oh no, God has just given them His Holy Spirit. He has just poured out His Holy Spirit on His people, the men of Israel. Oh, Beloved, how important it is that you know truth for yourselves. We‟ll be right back.

Welcome back my friend. Peter is explaining what has happened. And he goes on to say go back to verse 23. “This Man, delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.” (2:23) You called for His death. And God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death.

Do you realize what he just said? Because Jesus has been raised from the dead, then death‟s stinger has been removed. Because if you believe in Jesus Christ then when you die you don‟t just die flat out dead. But you are absent from the body and you then are present with the Lord. You‟re no longer going to face hell. You‟re no longer going to face the lake of fire. You‟re no longer going to be tormented night and day where the worm dies not and the fire is not quenched. He‟s put an end to the agony of death. Because sin has been dealt with. Since it was impossible for Him, for Jesus to be held in its power. Why was it impossible for Satan or death or hell to hold Jesus Christ in death? Because sin had been paid for. And when sin was paid for then the devil‟s power was broken.

You can look at it later in Hebrews, chapter 2, right near the end of that chapter. But let‟s go on so drop down to verse 32. It says, “This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.” (2:32) We all saw Him. We were with Him when He was alive. We saw Him when He was dead and we saw Him when He was raised from the dead. We are witnesses; He has been raised from the dead. “Therefore, having been exalted to the right of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit…” You want to underline it; you want to mark it like we‟ve been marking the Holy Spirit. “… having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured this, and it‟s the Holy Spirit, which you both see with your eyes and which you hear.” (2:33) This is what‟s happened. Jesus has gone to the Father. He has conquered death. He has been glorified, as John, chapter 7 says. And because He‟s been glorified, now He‟s able to give the Holy Spirit. And so where does all this lead?

Well let‟s go to verse 37. It says, “Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, „Brethren, what shall we do?‟” (2:37) And, “Peter said to them, „Repent; have a change of mind.‟” (2:38) You were standing in that crowd You were watching and you didn‟t rush up and say no, no, don‟t crucify Him, He‟s the Son of God. You didn‟t say that. So, “„… Repent, have a change of mind. And let each of you be baptized, now listen, in the name of Jesus Christ…,‟” (2:38)

In other words, I‟m going to identify myself with Jesus Christ. I‟m going to bear His name. I am going to come into a oneness with Him. Because baptize means to be united with. It means to be identified with. So he says, “„… and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.‟” And it says, “‟For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off….‟” (2:39).

That means the Gentiles. There‟s no Gentiles here now, all Jews. But you wait; we‟re going to see it in our next program. It says, “… as far off as many as the Lord God shall call to Himself.” (2:39) It says, “And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, be saved from this perverse generation!” (2:40) And that‟s God‟s word to you today. Be saved from this perverse generation.

If you‟ve been listening to me and other Christian programs, just out of curiosity, then listen; God is speaking to you. And He‟s saying be saved from this perverse generation. You don‟t want to live out there in the rest of this world. You want to know what life in the Spirit is all about. You want to know what life is about because you‟re dead in your trespasses and sins. Be saved from this perverse generation. And it says and, “So then those who had received his word were baptized….” (2:41)

Now what does it mean? It means they heard what the Spirit of God was saying. And they took that and they embraced that and they said this is truth and we‟re going to align ourselves with it. And so what happened? It says, “… and they received His word and they were baptized, and there were added to the church that day three thousand souls.” (2:41)

And what happened as a result of it? Listen, this is life in the Spirit. “And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles teaching….” (2:42) They wanted more and more and more of the Word of God. The fact, Precious One, that you want more of the Word of God is because the Holy Spirit is in you. And it says, “… and they were devoting themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship ….” Fellowship means to come together because you‟re sharing something in common. It‟s two fellows in the same ship; it‟s the word koinania. And so it comes together. And “… the breaking of bread…,” they were going around and they were breaking bread with one another. They were eating with one another, “… and to prayer. And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe, and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.” (2:42-43) \

Now what you have to understand is they had no New Testament. It‟s about to be written. And it says, “… and everyone kept feeling the sense of awe… and all those who had believed were together and had all things in common, and they began selling their property and their possessions and they were sharing them as anyone might have need.” (2:43-45) What was happening was they looked and they said, hey we all belong to Jesus Christ. We‟re all believers. We‟ve recognized the He‟s the Messiah. And because we are together, because the Holy Spirit has brought us together, then what concerns you concerns me because we‟re members one of another. We‟ll see that when we get into Ephesians.

But it says and, “Day by day, continuing with one mind in the temple. They were worshiping God and breaking bread from house to house. They were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart.” (2:46) Hey, they just wanted to be together. They just wanted that fellowship. They wanted to talk about what they were learning. They wanted to talk about what they were experiencing. They wanted to be together. This is what happens in life in the Spirit. And it says, “… they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart.”

In other words, there were no people there that were leeches, that were just coming along and were slothers and they weren‟t going to work and the rest were going to supply their needs. This was genuine Christianity, “… praising God and having favor with all the people.” (2:47) Why? Because their lives had been changed. Because the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, gentleness, meekness, all these things, this nine-fold fruit. And it says, “… they were having favor with all the people and the Lord was adding to their number day by day, those who were being saved.” (2:47)

Oh, Precious one, this is the community of life in the Spirit, when we all have one God and one purpose and one Lord and one Master, the Lord Jesus Christ, when we‟re all filled with one Spirit, then we realize that oneness that Jesus prayed that they would have. “That they may be one…,” Jesus prayed in John 17, “… even as we are one.” And that oneness came through being saved and receiving the Holy Spirit. Precious, Precious, Precious One, find yourself another child of God and have fellowship. Read the Word together, pray together, sing together, share with one another. Remember it all is in the family. It all belongs to the family of God. This, Beloved, is life in the Spirit.

His blood oath confirmed ~ Daily Light

MORNING

One of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you. - The life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls. - It is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

Jesus said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. - By his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. - Peace through the blood of his cross.

Ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, ... but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, ... manifest in these last times for you.

Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you and ye shall be clean: ... from all your idols, will I cleanse you. - Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience.

JOHN 19:34. Exo. 24:8. Lev. 17:11. Heb. 10:4. Mark 14:24. -Heb. 9:12. Col. 1:20. I Pet. 1:18-20. Ezek. 36:25. Heb. 10:22.

EVENING

Amen.

Amen: the LORD God ... say so too. - He who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth (Heb. The Amen) and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth (The Amen).

When God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.

These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness. - For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be his glorious name for ever. Amen, and Amen.

Old Testament - Jeremiah chapter 31 today is encouraging reading! It seems we've rounded the corner from the coming destruction and captivity prophecies in the book of Jeremiah, and God is now speaking about rebuilding Jerusalem. We get a good Messianic foreshadowing today in verse 31: ""The day will come," says the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah." The new covenant is coming!

Today in Jeremiah 31:33 we read: “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” This verse reminds me of the importance in memorizing scripture – not just reading scripture, but memorizing it and writing it upon our hearts. I have been amazed oftentimes how Proverbs 3:5-6 comes to my mind and heart at some very needed and specific times. (if you can only memorize 2 scripture verses, please memorize these Proverbs verses) Do you memorize scripture? Do you not just memorize it, but internalize its teachings and meanings into your heart? Do you see the value in memorizing scripture and writing it upon your heart?

Jeremiah Chapter 32 is intriguing. God asks Jeremiah to buy land - even though all of the land of Jerusalem will soon fall under captivity. Jeremiah is - once again - obedient. God goes on in this chapter to indeed confirm that Jerusalem will fall - but that God will eventually restore the Israelites back to Jerusalem and buying and selling of land will occur again. Interesting chapter. The call to Jeremiah to buy land was to set the stage for reminding the Israelites that they will soon lose this ability, but it will come back to them again eventually. I like this example. What about you in your life today - is there anything God is asking you to be obedient in? Even if you perhaps won't see an "immediate" return on your investment of your obedience, will you obey God? Is the eternal return on your investment of obedience worth it? Below is an image of Jeremiah in the court of the prison buying his kinsman's field from today's readings:

New Testament - Paul's teachings in 1 Timothy 3 gives some great rules and regulations for leaders in a church. It all makes a lot of sense. I would encourage anyone who has interest in leading in your church - or if you are currently leading in your church - to prayerfully read through these. How are you doing on these? Are there some areas in your life discussed here that need redeeming? One of my favorite verses in all of these is verse 5 - "For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church?" How very true is that? How are you doing in managing your own household?

Verse 16 today beautifully demonstrates Jesus' divinity and his humanity!
"Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith:
Christ appeared in the flesh
and was shown to be righteous by the Spirit.
He was seen by angels
and was announced to the nations.
He was believed on in the world
and was taken up into heaven."

Do you believe in everything written above? When is the last time you meditated upon the fact that Jesus ascended into heaven? I heard a Pastor recently say that he thinks the Ascension is one of the most overlooked facts of Jesus' life in the church today. Jesus ascended into heaven and sits at the Father's right hand! This is very good news for us indeed! Below is a painting by the Italian artist Garofalo from the year 1510 titled "The Ascension of Christ":

Psalms - Psalm 88 is quite a Psalm! Interestingly many churches read this Psalm during their Good Friday liturgies, interpreting this Psalm as a prayer of Jesus suffering on the road to Golgotha. Take a read through this Psalm again with this perspective...

Proverbs - Proverbs 25 verse 20 is intriguing to me today: "Singing cheerful songs to a person whose heart is heavy is as bad as stealing someone's jacket in cold weather or rubbing salt in a wound." I've always kind of thought you should try to "cheer someone up" when they are feeling down. But... this Proverb seems to suggest otherwise? Actually, this does remind me that if someone is grieving the loss of a loved one, we should allow them to grieve. If they don't grieve now, they'll grieve later. It's better to go through the grieving process than to repress it. So, let us be judicious in when we sing cheerful songs to someone whose heart is heavy... They probably don't need to see these 3 folks below at their doorstep early on in the grieving process...

Worship God: Based on Psalm 88's look at what Jesus endured for us and based on the ascension discussed in 1 Timothy today, it seems like a great time to share with you this awesome live video of "Jesus Paid It All" led by Kristian Stanfill. This is a great worship song! And the last half I particularly love when the whole crowd is worshiping: "Oh praise the One who paid my debt, and raised this life up from the dead. Jesus!"
