Old Testament - Today in Ezra chapter 3 we read about the Israelites rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem. We read in verse 10 – “When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD, as prescribed by David king of Israel.” There are some powerful chapters in Ezra as we read about the start of the rebuilding of the Temple, the opposition to it, and then its final completion. I like that verse 10 above tells us that the priests and the Levites praised God after the foundation to the Temple was laid. And I wonder about this in our lives today. Is there perhaps a “Temple” of some sort in your life that needs rebuilding? Is there a good habit that you have lost? A bad habit that you have picked up? Have you lost some of your zeal for God that you had earlier in your life? Do you want things to change? Do you want to rebuild a “Temple” in your life? How will you do so? Will you perhaps follow the example of the Israelites in Ezra and begin with the Foundation? Will you take the very first, maybe seemingly small steps to begin to rebuild your Temple? And – when you get to even just the foundation of your Temple being rebuilt, will you praise God as the priests and Levites did in Ezra? Many blessings to you as you begin your journey with God of rebuilding a Temple in your life!

New Testament - Bible.org's commentary on today's First Corinthians readings titled "True Wisdom"is at this link and "Substandard Saints" is at this link.  Below is a powerful image for First Corinthians 3:3 from today's readings:

Psalms - Psalm 28 verse 2 stood out to me today - "Listen to my prayer for mercy as I cry out to you for help, as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary."  The thing that stood out to me is the image of the Psalmist "lifting his hands" in prayer.  I'm curious about this - if you don't mind sharing in the Comments section below - do you periodically lift your hands in prayer?  Do you kneel when you pray?  Close your eyes?  Bow your head?  What do you do to really signify your worship and praise of God?  Do you think lifting our hands or doing other body movements can change the way we pray to God - rather than doing nothing unique with our body?   Let me know if you have Comments on this below...  thanks...  My quick thoughts are that we can absolutely pray at any time in any place without lifting our hands or closing our eyes or bowing, etc.   I think this gets toward the idea of "praying unceasingly."   However - I do think there is something special about the times in our day when we can really spend some quality quiet time with God in prayer.  And the best way for me to personally do this is by really changing my body language first - by kneeling down, closing my eyes, bowing my head, maybe lifting my hands, etc.  This somehow I think brings me closer to God - it doesn't bring God closer to me - he's always close.  But, somehow, what I do with my body before & during prayer can definitely make a difference in how long I will actually pray to God and how deep into prayer & listening I will go.  How about for you?

Proverbs - Today in Proverbs 20 verse 24 we will read – “A person's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?” This is a powerful Proverb for us to consider. Do you believe that your steps are directed by God? I think so often we want to be in control of our own steps. And when we really try to take control of our own steps is when we so often stumble. . . It is so powerful for us to realize that the best thing we can possibly do in our lives is let God direct our steps! Let God lead us. And then let us pray we will follow. The question posed by at the end of this Proverb above is probably frustrating to our modern minds – “Whaddya mean I can’t understand my own way! That ain’t right. I am in charge around here!” Are we really? I mean, really? The question posed by this Proverb reminds me of another wise and famous Proverb in chapter 3, verses 5 through 6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” We should not ever try to make our own paths straight! Let God do it. He knows where we should be going. All we need to do is trust God. Simply trust. Do you trust God to direct your steps and make your paths straight?

Worship God:  Today's Psalm reminds me of the Chris Tomlin song "Our God is Greater:"

What is Good?

The Bible defines "good" or “good works” as that which has ETERNAL weight and is worked out from a position RIGHTEOUSNESS and Divine justification according to the ETERNAL absolutes of time and ETERNITY (Psalm 16:2, 34:14, Matt. 6:33, Luke 6:43, John 6:28, Acts 10:38, Rom. 10:2-4, Gal. 2:20-21, 1 Cor. 3:10-15, James 1:17, 3 John 1:10-11, Rev. 14:13).

It is true that fallen humanity can do humanly good in time based on the moral laws which were instilled into the creation by Almighty God (Gen. 1:31, Matt. 7:11) but apart from possessing Almighty God’s redemption and RIGHTEOUSNESS which is found in Jesus Christ it will have no EVERLASTING value (Matt. 7:21-23, Luke 8:15, John 3:16-17, 36, 1 John 2:15-17). These works are called dead works (Matt. 7:21-23, Heb. 6:1, 9:14, James 2:17, Rev. 20:11-15).

That which is God’s good will endure FOREVER, for it is established in the RIGHTEOUS Person of Almighty God the Son.

That which is God’s good will endure FOREVER, for it is established in the RIGHTEOUS Person of Almighty God the Son (Psalms 107:1, 1 John 2:15-17) and the one who possesses Almighty God’s good will be able to do TRUE good, for his work, if labored rightly will abide FOREVER (Dan. 12:3, Matt. 25:31-39, John 14:12, 1 Cor. 3:11-15).

Now my dear friends now go forth and do good unto the Lord's glory (Eph. 5:16-17)!

The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

 We Are a Broken Egg

We Are a Broken Egg

My friend, we are like a broken egg. When an egg is smashed and broken, who can put it perfectly back together again? In the beginning God created us perfect (like a whole, unbroken egg) in Adam, but the transgression of Adam against the ETERNAL spiritual laws (absolutes) and temporal natural laws of Almighty God caused him to die – both spiritually and physically. Thus, because of Adam’s transgression all who were born in Adam (i.e., the entire human race) were made “broken” sinners (Gen. 3; 2:16-17; Rom. 5:12-19).

Thus, because of Adam’s transgression all who were born in Adam (i.e., the entire human race) were made “broken” sinners.
.
It is utterly impossible to perfectly and totally obey the spiritual absolutes and natural laws ordained by Almighty God in our fallen, “broken egg” nature (Rom. 7:15-24; 8:5-8). The best a man (person) can do is to contain the vices and passions of his own heart (conservatism). That in itself certainly does not make one righteous enough to fulfill (satisfy) God’s laws (James 2:10).

What Hope Is There For a Broken Egg?
.

God did not forsake His lost creation. He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to redeem man and to deliver them from their bondage and judgment of sin (their broken eggness/ trespasses).

The Bible states: "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosever (anyone and every one) believeth in him should not perish (will not die) but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved" (John 3:16-17).

'For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh (a broken egg), and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh" (Rom 8:3).

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners (broken eggs), Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8).

"Who (Christ) was delivered for our offences (broken actions), and was raised again for our justification" (Rom. 5:25).

"But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).
.
There is great hope to all who look to Almighty God and His Son for deliverance!
,
God’s great desire is to redeem men and deliver us from the devastating consequences of sin. For all who put their trust in Him through Christ, He will exchange these “broken egg” natures and bodies of ours for new ones that will be completely perfect (1 John 3:1-2). These new, ETERNAL bodies will be capable of enjoying Almighty God as He is in perfect holiness and righteousness! (1 Cor. 15:42-57)

"Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption (broken egg-ness) into the glorious liberty (a perfectly complete egg) of the children of God" (Romans 8:21).

"So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption (broken egg-ness); it is raised in incorruption" (a perfectly complete egg) (1 Cor. 15:42).

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away" (Rev. 21:1).

God has given to all of Adam’s fallen race a wonderful future and deliverance from our “broken egg” humanity. We must choose by our own free will to receive Almighty God’s pardon and gift of ETERNAL life (Eph. 2:8-9). Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour? He alone can change your “broken egg” life to a perfect one. Trust Him today! You will NEVER be the same!

"And he (Jesus) said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God" (Luke 18:27).

The Kingdom of heaven is at hand!
