Thus the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites. And they took their daughters to be their wives and gave their daughters to their sons and they served their gods.
Judges 3:5-6
Change is inevitable. But it's interesting that, though our world has changed dramatically since the days of the Judges, the world system is still the same because human nature hasn't changed. You can have all the electric gizmos you want, all the cool MP3 players, and all the fancy things that they didn't have in those days. But the human heart still acts and works the same as it did back then; it's just as wicked. So the more we know this about ourselves -- that our hearts are impure and sinful -- the more we attempt to change the things around us -- our environment, our surroundings, sometimes even our spouse -- to find happiness and contentment. But we soon realize that nothing can change our heart except Jesus Christ in our lives.
Even though God had strictly forbidden that the Israelites not intermarry with the pagan and sinful people, they disobeyed and married them anyways. (And these are the tribes that are going to plague them forever.) So if you keep trying to change everything around you, you're going to continue to be lost and miserable. Happiness comes from a heart that is changed by God and a heart that wants to please Him and do the things that He asks us to do.
For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name (Psalm 33:21).
I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart (Psalm 40:8).Posted via email from ..................The Last Call Digest
