Two elements required to be an outstanding leader are knowledge and understanding. Read Jeremiah 3:15. In Jeremiah chapter 3, the first 14 verses describe a situation where leaders in Israel, the Northern kingdom, had prostituted themselves to false gods and led the people to do the same. Jeremiah calls Judah, the Southern kingdom, an unfaithful sister who followed Israel’s lead. In verse 15 Jeremiah prophecies of a time when God will send leaders to a united Israel who had His own heart. God tells us His criterion for leadership when He promises through Jeremiah that He will give shepherds after His own heart who will lead with knowledge and understanding. The word shepherd said a lot to the original audience. That single word described leaders who would think of those they lead before themselves, would be attentive to their every need and would be willing to sacrifice personally to insure those they lead have their needs met. A shepherd with knowledge and understanding added another layer of experience and leadership maturity that gave protection, safety and security. A shepherd-leader does not develop automatically. A shepherd after God’s own heart must possess several qualities. According to notes in The Maxwell Leadership Bible a “shepherd after God’s own heart” must possess at least four skills: Tags: Attitude Skills, Cast Vision, Criterion for leadership, Equipping Skills, False gods, Knowledge,Leadership Skills, People Skills, Personal Sacrifice, Servant's Heart, Understanding
