One Thousand Years: Genesage "The Kiss" (Chapter 10:10)

One Thousand Years

Genesage

“The Kiss"

(Chapter 10:10)

As if on cue and from previous experience Ezravivor waited until he saw Delilah's tears.

He put his arm around her and didn't say a word but held her.  He stared out over the lake feeling the breeze come up and brush the hair of the two of them. His long hair became in twined with her curls. He pushed her head like a child to lay against his chest and she turned to weep there. She always felt cold to his warm touch and holding her now he could feel the inadvertent tremble she would never admit as her fragility. Admitted or not he knew she needed someone. She might not know that but he did.

She always portrayed herself so strong.

So strong, or she acted like it. Always she told him she was just cold. A lot of things she said he ignored but she always burrowed into him and his embrace a little closer.  Each time a little tighter. Each time a little longer. Most times she would fall asleep exhausted resting in his arms.

He knew the dreams took a lot out of her.

Those times were heaven for him even if they were hell for her.  With her he could imagine the world being perfect. Lately she had been changing again, adjusting more to his attention. After so many years he had never given up but learned to adapt to her moods and foibles.

Delilah suddenly sat up.

She turned to face him as they sat together.  He watched her eyes as she asked,

"What did you think of Rose?"

Suddenly Ezravivor felt flushed and embarrassed. He didn't want to remember how he felt. He remembered exactly what he had thought and he really did not want to talk about it. Right now confusion in his emotions was holding him as he held her.  And she wanted to talk about Rose. Rose was the last thing on his mind.

Of course, it was on her mind instead.

"What do you mean?"  He said innocuously.

"Oh you know what I mean."

She playfully punched him in the arm.

He looked at her sitting there. Suddenly he leaned forward and kissed her. At least he tried to, sort of. He miscalculated the distance and abruptly smashed into her lips as she was saying, "nmmmmrrmmpphh".

Still it was a kiss, sort of.

Delilah backed up breaking their embrace.  She stood up quickly unsettled. Ezravivor naively thinking this was his lucky night also stood up. He moved closer to D not being able to see the reaction he had created on her face. Little did he know what was in store but he was hoping.

Delilah reached out to him.  Ezravivor moved closer into her grasp. He started to lean forward to kiss her. He was fully committed. He shifted his weight as he leaned towards her closing his eyes.  As he came forward she stepped back; grabbed his arms; shifted her weight; twisted her hips; and threw him over her thigh into the lake.

It was easy for her as his momentum carrying him past her into the water.

"That's what I thought you were thinking." , said Delilah miffed.

Ezravivor never seeing it coming simply sat up in the water and considered his options.

He really did not have any experience with women. And with a woman like Delilah he had never been right in timing.  He had been tossed into a shallow end. His pride more wet then he was.

He was recovering his composure from awe struck puppy in love to something else when Delilah said,

"Don't ever try anything like that again."
