Be a Living Epistle
“. . . then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has committed that wicked thing, and shall stone to death that man
or woman with stones.”
Deuteronomy 17:5
Wow — that is the Word of the Lord! God did not put up with sin. You kill them. You get rid of them. Why? Because they become leaven to the church. Of course, we do not kill people today, but think about God’s Word. This is God’s Word — the Old Testament — the same God of the New Testament. What did people do in the New Testament? Well, people in the New Testament took advantage of the grace of God.
If we were living in the Old Testament today, being under the law, most of us would not be here. There would be many changes, because people are hypocrites. We live one way in the church. We live another way at home. We live another way where we play, and it is not good. People are watching our lives like you cannot believe.
I was at the gym, and a little Japanese doctor came to talk to me. He is not a believer. He told me he is a Buddhist, but he has been coming to CCGS for 3 years. He said, “You know, Pastor, I see something different. I feel something different on Sunday mornings.” I told him, “It is the Holy Spirit.” It is funny. It is amazing. I was laughing so hard. That is how it is.
Think about Moses. He was writing and thinking about all the trash taking place among the people as they were coming to worship God.
I think about it as I watch the people come and go from the church. Are they living their lives to glorify God? Are they living epistles of God? We must live our lives knowing people are watching, and we represent a holy and living God. Do not take advantage of the grace of God.
Conduct is an unspoken sermon.
