Aren't you glad God didn't keep His relationship with us a secret?
Today's Devotion
From Mike MacIntosh
Then all the Midianites and Amalekites, the people of the East, gathered together; and they crossed over and encamped in the Valley of Jezreel. But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him. And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, who also gathered behind him. He also sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
Judges 6:33-35
Here we see that the Spirit of the Lord comes upon Gideon and he blows the trumpet, signaling that he's ready for battle. Now think about this: Gideon obeyed God in the first part of his assignment--to tear down the foreign gods--and could have run away to hide or escape. But he didn't. Still scared, to be sure, Gideon was ready for the next phase in God's plan, and that was to blow the trumpet, sound the battle cry, and finish the job.
You see, this world has a spirit to it that is trying to lull you to sleep, to be apathetic to the things of God, and to make you feel that your relationship with God is just another religion. Failures, setbacks, and pains at work or in the home seem to be a part of life, but thankfully we get a two-week vacation to forget about the trouble--all to just start the grind all over again. Is that really life? Or maybe we can't wait until vacation to rid ourselves of our troubles, so we just hit the bar on our way home from work to "drown our sorrows away." Is this the life that God really intended for you? Of course not! The spirit of the world and the Spirit of the Lord are at war. As Christians, our souls are at war with the world.
It's time to pick up that trumpet and sound the battle cry. Now is the time for your life in Jesus Christ to be flowing and gushing out of you, and sprinkling everybody you bump into. The love of the Lord should be touching every decision you make. If God has called you to be a politician, let Him speak through you. If God has called you to be a successful businessperson, let Him make your decisions that will be honoring and full of integrity. Jesus Christ doesn't want to keep our relationship with Him a secret. Don't be afraid or hesitant to sound the alarm in your home or work. I thank God Almighty, King of the universe, that He didn't keep His relationship with us a secret. He sent his only begotten Son down here to die on a cross out in the open for everybody to see. I think the least we can do is to show others that same love that He showed to us.
