When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts,: according to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-serah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein. | ||
Joshua 19:49-50 | ||
It was only after everyone else had an assigned section that Joshua claimed his territory. Timnath-serah was hill country. It was similar to Caleb’s territory - a tough assignment. Philippians 2 tells us we’re to have the same mind as Jesus, Who came in humility and gave up His rights and chose to die on the Cross in order to provide redemption for lost sinners like you and me. Timnath-serah literally means “abundant portion” because abundance is always found when we lay down our rights. It’s the hard stuff that brings abundance. It’s when you have to roll up your sleeves and put your hand to the plow, it’s when you get involved and engaged that you find abundant life. The abundant life is found in walking in the Spirit, seeking first the Kingdom, taking on the territory you’ve been assigned, and not giving up. Joshua claimed Timnath-serah as his own. Yet Jesus took on an infinitely tougher assignment when He took on my salvation. |
