Care for the Needy
“. . . except when there may be no poor among you; for the LORD will greatly bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you
to possess as an inheritance.”
Deuteronomy 15:4
God says that if you help the poor, then He will bless you. But, if you neglect the poor, God will curse you. What does that tell you? We need to help people who are in need. If everyone gave to the poor, even in a small way, we would not have the problem with homelessness and poverty.
Yesterday in the news, they were talking to some men who received $20 million dollars to study and take care of a species of little birds. The money came from our government. The news reporter asked, “How did you get the funding?” They said, “We just asked for it, and they mailed us $20 million dollars.”
Can you believe it? We have homeless people across the country, and our government is spending money to care for birds. One day, the men and women in office will have to give an account of what God gave to our country. One day they are going to be held accountable by God.
It is the same for you and me. We are going to be responsible for our paychecks — for the money we make. The Bible talks about stewardship. It is really important we understand that these things are given to us as an example, so we can learn and we can teach our children and our children’s children.
The use of our possessions shows us up
for what we actually are.
