A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Friendship is a great healing tool the Lord uses in our lives. Ringo Starr made a lot of money singing, "I get by with a little help from my friends." He not only got wealthy, but on this point he was right. A few years ago, a good friend of mine came into my life when my health fell to an all-time low. He lives on the bay and has a boat moored at a dock behind his house. While Sandy and I were on vacation, he and his wife offered to take my family for a cruise. My first reaction was that I couldn’t even afford the fuel to get from the dock to the jetty, yet he and his wife wanted to share their blessings with us. On that sunny, 80-degree day, the captain said, "I think we will go offshore about a mile to see if we can find some dolphins." Find some dolphins! Did we ever find some dolphins. All of a sudden, hundreds of dolphins shot out of the water from every direction. All of our children joined me in shouting and screaming at the top of our lungs. That day, I saw how happy Sandy and the children were. I bowed my head and thanked Jesus for sending this school -- no, this university -- of dolphins, to bring us such joy. And I thanked Him for friends who knew our hurts, and would care enough to bless us. If you are tired, burnt out, or in great pain, remember that the joy of friendship can bring tremendous healing power into your life. Above all, remember that Jesus is your best friend, and it blesses Him to see you and your friends love one another. So be a friend, and allow your friends to bless you through their love. |
