Purim Festival
But the Jews who were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day, as well as on the fourteenth; and on the fifteenth of the month they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
Esther 9:18
Today, the Jewish celebration of Purim continues until sundown. This celebration is called Purim because the wicked Haman had cast Pur, or a lot, to determine the day they would rise up against the Jewish people.
It is important to know that God not only protected His people from complete destruction, but He also allowed them to destroy their enemy.
The king could not reverse the decree sent out by Haman because he had signed it. By law, any decree signed by the king could not be stopped. In order to save the Jews, a new decree was sent out. It gave permission to the Jewish people to defend themselves and destroy their enemy. In so doing, many of the Persian people feared the Jews and turned to faith in God.
So, the Jewish people fought on the thirteenth and fourteenth days of the twelfth month, and on the fifteenth day, they rested and celebrated their victory over their enemies and the schemes of Haman.
Keep in mind: the people of God were victorious because God protected them. They did not fear, with God as their protection. God is always our defense before our enemies.
We need not look upon those enemies with fear
whom God looks upon with contempt.
