Q. Re: Rev. 11:19 The Ark of the Covenant was seen by John, as related in Revelation, in Heaven in the future. Now if the Ark of the Covenant is there then is it not likely that it is there presently?
And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.
A. Many scholars believe that the temple/tabernacle and all their implements are copies of things Moses first saw in heaven. They use Exodus 25:9 as their authority. “Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.”
Hebrews 8:5 confirms this. “They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” This would indicate the originals have always been in Heaven and God had the Israelites make copies for use on Earth. So it’s the copy that’s either missing or hidden.
