Bondage & Redemption
Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
Exodus 6:6
After coming out of Genesis, the book of beginnings, and learning the principles of God’s beginnings, you get to the Book of Exodus, and you find the people of God in Egypt. In Exodus, there are a couple of things we need to understand. First, Egypt is a type of the world.
God allowed them to be in bondage in the world because the people made the choice to go to Egypt. He allowed them to go to Egypt, but He did not intend for them to become like the Egyptians or grow comfortable.
They were to be set apart, to be salt and light, to the people of Egypt. If we are in the world, we are to bring the world to God. But, what did they do? They became part of the world. And in becoming part of the world, they were put in bondage to the world. Four hundred and thirty years they would be in bondage—four generations.
What is incredible here in the Book of Exodus is we also find God’s redemption. When the people cried out to God, He heard their cries and delivered them from their oppressors.
We find redemption today through Christ. When we cry out to God while in bondage to the world, God will hear our cries and deliver us from our oppressors.
Life is not worth living apart from redemption.
