Last Call Digest: Be willing to risk everything - Mike MacIntosh

While Jesus spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler [Jairus] came and worshiped Him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live." So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
Matthew 9:18-19

It's difficult to imagine the pain of losing a child. If you're a parent, it's probably your worst nightmare. Jairus, a respected religious leader in Israel, had just lost his 12-year-old daughter when he sought Jesus in a crowd. As a father, his face was no doubt stained with tears, and his eyes sunken from crying. As a religious leader, though, he was supposed to be opposed to Jesus. All the religious leaders in Israel were opposed to Jesus. But Jairus did something so politically incorrect, something so frowned-upon by his peers, that it threatened to end his career. Not only did He ask Jesus to heal his daughter, he worshiped Jesus.

You see, Jairus believed that Jesus had the power to raise his daughter from the dead. He knew that Jesus could restore his family. And he risked everything -- his livelihood, his social standing, his political influence -- to worship Jesus.

As followers of Christ, we are called to worship like that. We are called to revere Jesus so highly above all else, that we're willing to risk losing everything for His sake. Just as Jairus fully believed Jesus could save His daughter, so we are to worship, fully believing that He has the power to save from sin! It's easy for us to think of "worship" as merely a time of singing together on Sunday mornings. But worship requires faith, and faith requires action. God does not just want us to sing songs on Sunday morning; He wants us to worship Him with our very lives, every single day.

Jesus healed Jairus' daughter, but only after Jairus took the biggest step of faith of his life, and worshiped. Today, Jesus wants to bring healing to your life, but you must be willing to take a step of faith.

You must be willing to risk everything, and worship.
