Last Words at the Last Supper: Part One ~ WoW 7 minute Bible

Last Words at the Last Supper: Part One

John 14:1-15:11; Psalm 109:26-28; Proverbs 20:4
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know." Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him."
Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us."

Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

"A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?"

Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

"These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.

"And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

"These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

John 14:1-15:11

WORSHIPHelp me, O LORD my God!
Oh, save me according to Your mercy,
That they may know that this is Your hand-
That You, LORD, have done it!
Let them curse, but You bless;
When they arise, let them be ashamed,
But let Your servant rejoice.
Psalm 109:26-28

WISDOM
The lazy man will not plow because of winter;
He will beg during harvest and have nothing.

Hows Your History? ~ Bob Coy

How?s Your History?

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets . . . .-Hebrews 1:1 (NKJV)

In order to understand prophecy, we need to understand history. Because biblical prophecy was given within the context of Israel's history, we'll review its history, which can be summarized through five historical figures.

It all started with Adam, the first human in history. His life began in the Garden of Eden, endured the fall, and lasted for 930 years. Not many prophecies were recorded during his time, with the notable exception of the very first (and, perhaps, most important) prophecy, which we will look at tomorrow. Adam's life takes us from man's beginning up to the time of the flood.

Abraham lived shortly after the flood. It was through him that Israel was founded, and it was toIsrael's establishment as a nation, which happened under Moses. him that God gave several promises and prophecies concerning the coming nation and its Messiah. He lived for 175 years and represents the period of time between the flood and

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, through the wilderness for 40 years, and eventually to the border of the homeland that God had promised to them. Several prophecies were given during his lifetime, which spanned Israelites' captivity in Egypt to their possession of the Promised Land.

After settling in the land, Israel established kings to rule over them. The greatest of these was David. Following his death, a succession of kings followed and Israel split into two countries, Israel (to the north) and Judah (to the south). During this period the majority of the prophecies were given and fulfilled
.

The kings reigned for several centuries until Israel and Judah were conquered by a succession of other empires. Four hundred years of relative inactivity passed before Jesus' birth. More prophecies point to Him than any other individual in history, so His life marks the fulfillment of many prophecies given over the centuries.

This isn't comprehensive, but it shows us Israel's historical highlights. This will help us understand the placement and fulfillment of the prophecies God gave.

Discuss with your group what you enjoy most about learning history. How have lessons from the past helped you to better understand the present?

Dig into Hebrews 1:1. Why do you think God would choose to speak to us through the words of the prophets? Why is it important to view prophecy in its historical context?

Decide with your group to look back at your own personal history and your own story of faith. Challenge the members to recount their own “defining moments” of faith and then share with the group how they have seen God’s hand at work throughout their life.

God Desires to Cleanse Us ~ Raul Ries

# Out of Sequence

God Desires to Cleanse Us

“Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying ‘I am willing,
be cleansed.’ Immediately, the leprosy left him.”

Luke 5:13

The Lord had compassion on the leper. This man riddled with disease knew he had no hope on earth. He knew he needed to be cleansed, but that it could only come from God. He humbly sought the Lord’s help and Jesus, in His compassion, healed his wounds.

One of the first things God heals in our lives is our sinful state. As sinners, we are without hope on earth. We are in bondage to our flesh and no one can deliver us accept God. When we humbly turn to the Lord seeking cleansing (forgiveness) of our sins, He forgives us, cleanses us, and restores our fellowship with God. It is then that we are given a new nature, one that is born of God, and no longer riddled with the condemnation of sin.

Thought for the Day:
God is more than willing to cleanse is from our sins!

Commit to your marriage ~ Mike MacIntosh

Then He arose from there and came to the region of Judea by the other side of the Jordan. And multitudes gathered to Him again, and as He was accustomed, He taught them again. The Pharisees came and asked Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" testing Him. And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
Mark 10:1-9

God hates divorce. Why? Because He hates the pain that it brings into the heart of the wife and the husband. He hates the pain it brings into the spouses' parents. He hates the pain of the little boy or little girl crying, "Is daddy ever coming home again?" He hates the pain it brings to the teenage son when he starts smoking, or drinking, and getting rebellious. He hates divorce because He knows that it brings pain. He doesn't hate you. He hates the fact that divorce rips apart something that was once joined together.

Satan knows that if he can get families to be torn apart, then the churches will be torn apart. The enemy knows that if he can keep hatred in the family, then there will be hatred in our nation and our world. But on the flipside, if the home can be turned around towards God, then our churches, nation, and our world could all be turned around. If the littlest guy on the pecking order of our society could turn his own home around, then we know that all the working class could be turned around. If the professors on the campuses would turn their homes around, then the classes they are teaching could be turned around, too. It starts with the heart of the home. What leaves your front door in the morning is what is going to affect our society.

Marriage is under attack and is losing ground by the day. Many now walk into marriage asking, "How can he or she fulfill my needs?" With that kind of attitude and perspective, our marriages fail before they even start. We need to start fighting to restore love back into our relationships. Remember the marriage vows: "for better and for worse, richer and poorer, in sickness and in health." Nowhere does it say, "as long as we're both fulfilled." Self-fulfillment has become an underlying principle for the reasons people do many things in our society. So until we can crucify those thoughts, there cannot be revival in the body of Christ and in our nation.

Seek the Lord and His will for your marriage. For some, this may be a difficult task, but you need to start reading the Scriptures with your spouse. You need to be in the Word and praying together every day. The only thing that will fix marriages is the Lord Himself. God doesn't want to see your family in pain and misery. Be committed to your marriage.

Spiritual tug of war ~ David McGee

Acts 13:7-8

"He had attached himself to the governor, Sergius Paulus, a man of considerable insight and understanding. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul to visit him, for he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas, the sorcerer (as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Saul and Barnabas said. He was trying to turn the governor away from the Christian faith."
NLT

Life Lesson

Every one of us is involved in a spiritual tug of war.

In this story, we see the governor torn between Saul and Barnabas, who meant him well, and Elymas who tried to keep the governor from hearing about God. I believe we can relate to this because of the many struggles in our lives. We want to hear the Word of God, but sometimes we allow ourselves to be talked out of it. One of the things that can make a huge difference in our lives is coming to church to hear the Bible studies. It encourages us, challenges us, and allows worship and fellowship with one another. It is obvious why the enemy of our souls would not want us in that kind of environment. He will try and use friends, family and loved ones to keep us from church, serving, giving, praying and reading the Bible. Above all the noise; however, the voice of Jesus rings true. Come to Him and He will give you rest. The world says 'get', Jesus says 'give'. The world says focus on 'you'. Jesus says focus on 'others' and upon Him. Be careful what voice you listen to my friend. It is very important.

Dear Lord,
Help me to hear Your voice over the noise of life. Lord it seems that others try to pull me down or keep me from being spiritual. Help me during those weak moments to know what You would say to me. Help me to hear and respond to Your voice and be forgiven. Help me fellowship and love You and others around me. Thank You for continuing to call me. In Jesus' name, Amen

A matter of obedience ~ Chuck Swindoll

A Matter of Obedience

by Charles R. Swindoll

1 Timothy 2:1-7

Leading can be awfully lonely and terribly frustrating. I haven't always believed that. Fact is, when I was a starry-eyed seminary student back around '59 and '60, I had this crazy idea that a leader lived a charmed life. Especially a spiritual leader. My fantasy included contented people, smiling and grateful; plenty of time to think, study, and do relaxed research; no financial woes; short counseling sessions with folks who were eager and happy to adjust their lives according to Scripture; untold energy; sermons that virtually jumped from the text, then into my notes and out of my mouth. No conflicts. No confrontations . . . no kidding!

You're smiling. (I told you it was a fantasy.)

It's amazing what four decades can do to a wastebasket full of theories. Today I would tell anyone thinking about becoming a spiritual leader to think again. It's not that they're not needed; goodness knows, this ornery planet of depraved humanity can always use a few more leaders who are Christian to the core. The problem is, it's a lonelier task than it used to be. And the frustrations can be downright maddening.

In the midst of all this, it always helps me to return to my "call." Thousands of miles away from home, stationed on a tiny island in the South Pacific, I distinctly remember the inner surge of assurance that I would be neither fulfilled nor happy doing anything other than ministry. It meant changing careers and returning to graduate school. It meant retooling my mental machinery for a lifetime of study. It meant living my life under the always curious and sometimes demanding scrutiny of the public eye, and, if necessary, being willing to go to the wall for the sake of the gospel. None of this mattered. God had spoken to my heart, and there was no turning back. It was a matter of obedience.

We must recognize that the Lord, our God, is responsible for our appointment to any place of leadership. Over all other suggestions and advice, we must seek to hear the counsel of Almighty God as revealed in Scripture. We must take refuge in and rely on the Spirit of God rather than our own flesh and skill. With our whole heart we must fear Jesus Christ, our Lord, and acknowledge Him as the sovereign Head of the church, deserving of our unreserved faithfulness, submission, diligence, and commitment.

For me, there are no other options.

It's a matter of obedience.

How about you?

Take refuge in and rely on the Spirit of God rather than your own flesh and skill.

Jesus is our example ~ Bob Hoekstra

Jesus, the Ultimate Example of Godly Exaltation

A firm foundation ~ Mark Balmer

Based on “Under HIS Influence - Yes, Lord” by Pastor Mark Balmer; 10/3-4/09,

Message #MB391; Daily Devotional #1 - “Firm Foundation”

Preparing the Soil (Introduction): "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great." (Luke 6:46-49, ESV) “Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him.” Charles Stanley

Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): We in Florida, on occasion, get a glimpse at the destruction nature can cause on our manmade structures. Who hasn’t watched the lone news reporter tossed about by hurricane force winds while trees or cars or houses fly thorough the air in the background? Hurricanes bring a sober reminder of our potential vulnerability. After the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, the state of Florida increased the standards by which houses were to be built. The intent was to construct homes to be more wind resistant and with firmer foundations. Suppose you were building your own house and in an effort to save money and time decided not to heed the hurricane building code? You might get away with it initially. But what happens when the next Cat 3 comes across the Space Coast? Your lack of “obedience” to the code will result in the loss of your house and perhaps even the loss of your life.

Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): Jesus gives us a similar scenario in regard to obeying His Word. Obedience leads to life with a firm foundation. When the storms and winds blow we don’t have to worry, if we are actively following Jesus. He will sustain us because of our faith in Him. He promises us that. We can believe His Word. Following Jesus means saying, “Yes,” to Him and sometimes, “No,” to us. Too often we let our feelings determine our obedience: “If I feel like studying my Bible,” or “If I feel like giving my tithe.” I’m glad Jesus didn’t ask Himself if He felt like going to the cross. I suspect the answer would have been a very loud, “No!” If our feelings are preventing us from walking in obedience, next time don’t give them a vote. Just say, “Yes, Lord,” and trust Him with all the consequences. As our lives become more centered on God and His Word, as we abide in Him, obedience will become a natural outgrowth of the love relationship we are building. We obey because we love, and we love because He first loved us.

Where do you go for guidance?~Barry Werner

Many leaders choose to separate the spheres of work and spirituality. God’s desire is that leaders come to Him with all their requests, asking Him first for direction and guidance. Read 2 Samuel 2:1-4.

This passage, and others like it, demonstrates that David relied on God to help him in his decision-making process. Seeking God was the master key to David’s leadership success.

David’s next steps concerning when to move to Israel and which city to move to was a major strategic decision in the process of becoming king of Israel. It is interesting to notice that David did not immediately seek God’s counsel. Verse 1 says, “In the course of time, David inquired of the Lord.” David grieved Saul and Jonathan’s death. David probably took some personal time to think through his next steps. David may have hoped those in Israel who knew he had been anointed the next king would seek him out. David was not any different than every other leader in his initial reaction but at least one thing set David apart as a godly leader; before taking his next steps David sought God’s counsel and direction.

Leaders tend to be people of action. Others look to leaders for direction and leaders become accustomed to making decisions and giving their team direction both “next steps” and longer range objectives. Because they are familiar with the process of decision making, too often, even godly leaders, move without seeking God, assuming because they are godly, God will agree with their actions.

Effective godly leaders seek God before making their plans final. Christian leaders don’t need to grieve over a short delay between understanding there is an opportunity and seeking God’s counsel if they ultimately seek God before making the decisions final.

Isn't that Strange? ~ Charles Stanley

Exodus 3:1-22

Can you remember a time when you were so engrossed in the details of your own life that you couldn't hear God at all? In times like those, we oftentimes cannot detect the Lord's whisper. So instead, He may shout through unusual circumstances.

Consider Moses in the third chapter of Exodus. Though well educated and raised as a prince, he was now exiled and humiliated in the wilderness. Life certainly wasn't turning out as he'd envisioned, and he was no doubt preoccupied with fear, disappointment, and pride.

But God had big plans for Moses and needed to get his attention. So the Lord arranged something that the shepherd just couldn't ignore: a bush that was on fire and yet was not being consumed. Even more startling, God spoke to Moses through the burning bush! Do you think that would have made you take notice?

Sometimes, this is exactly how God works. In order to speak to us, He must first get our undivided attention by doing something so unusual that we have no choice but to stop, look, and listen.

There is no such thing as an accident for a child of God. Every single thing you see or hear is something that God allowed you to notice for a reason.

We must learn how to perceive God in every circumstance, from the wild and unexpected to the simple and mundane. Whether our situation seems unbelievably good or unbearably bad, we are wise to step back and ask the Lord to help us view the matter from His perspective.

He brought others to Jesus ~ Greg Laurie

Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means "Christ").

We read a lot about Peter, James, and John in the Gospels, but we don't know that much about Andrew. The brother of Peter, Andrew didn't get a lot of ink in the New Testament. But what we do read about him is significant. Andrew is primarily known as the one who brought others to Jesus. In fact, when he discovered that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah of Israel, he went and found his older brother and brought him to Jesus.

I find that interesting, because Peter was a larger-than-life kind of guy. Peter was the kind of person who would enter a room and everyone would know it. He always had something to say and was a natural leader. It is very likely that Andrew spent most of his life in his brother's shadow. How easily he could have kept the knowledge of Jesus to himself and said, "I don't want Peter to get in here. He will probably try to take over the whole operation." Instead, he went and brought Peter to Jesus.

Every time we read about Andrew, in fact, he is bringing someone to Jesus. There is the little boy with the loaves and fish whom he brought to Jesus, who then multiplied those provisions to feed thousands of people. Then there were some Greek men who came searching for truth, and Andrew brought them to Jesus. You could say that Andrew is like the patron saint of unsung heroes, the kind of people who are willing to do what needs to be done while flying under the radar. They don't care if you know about them; they just want God to get the glory. And here is the thing we need to remember: If we had more Andrews, we probably would have more Simon Peters.

Revealing what's inside ~ Jon Courson

For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

1 Thessalonians 3:4

Trials not only enable us to comfort others, but they purify our own faith as well. That’s why Peter said, ‘Don’t think it strange concerning the fiery trials which come your way. These fiery trials are sent to test and purify your faith’ (I Peter 4:12 ).

What happens when you are in a fiery trial? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego will tell you: Jesus shows up (Daniel 3:25). That’s why James tells us to count it all joy when we fall into trials (James 1:2).

‘Whoopee! A trial! How wonderful!’ Crazy? Not really, because if you have this mindset in your difficult times, you will see Jesus in a way that will,

Blow your mind,
Warm your heart,
And bless your socks

Trials don’t make or break us, gang. They simply reveal what’s inside ...

When I hit a bump, the tea which splashes out of the mug on my dashboard was there before the bump. The bump doesn’t put the tea in; it just shows what was already in the cup.

‘I’m angry because of what he or she did to me.’ No. The anger was already there. The bump just brought it out. Truly, the only way a man can really know how he’s doing is through bumpy, discouraging, heartbreaking times, for they alone reveal the heart.

Do people fraustrate you? ~ Kay Arthur

Do you get frustrated when you watch people manipulate others with their words, when you know that they are lying, when you know that they are saying what the people want to hear, when they.re tickling their ears and you know that they cannot deliver?

Or you know that when the time comes, when the politician gets into office or whatever ,he.s not going to deliver? He.s simply using deceptive words, and it.s like the people follow him.

What are we gonna do? We.ll talk about it today.

I do not know about you, but I hate being deceived. I want to know truth. I want to do truth. I want to live truth. I don.t always do it, but it is the driving desire of my life to hold to the integrity of the Word of God and to walk truthfully before others. And I want you to know that there is that tendency inside and I battle it and you battle it. You want to save your skin. You want to not look bad, and so you don.t always do truth. You cover it up. We.re talking about deception.

All this week we.re gonna look at what happens when people are deceived, when they think, “Hey, everything.s all right because I.ve got the temple of the Lord. I.m a member of the church, you know?” But you.re not all right if you.re not living like a member of the church ought to live.
Let.s go back to Jeremiah chapter 7.

And he is talking about these people trusting in deceptive words, saying “„…the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD..” (Jeremiah 7:4) He says, [“Listen, listen to Me. Do you remember what I did at Shiloh? Do you remember the tent that was there? Do you remember how I brought that down too?] (PARAPHRASE, Jeremiah 7:12-13)

Do you remember in 1 Samuel? Do you remember how there was sin the camp, and because there was sin in the camp and the enemy was coming against you that I let the Philistines capture the ark of the covenant because you were trusting in the ark of the covenant and you thought that the ark of the covenant could cover your unrighteousness?” (See 1 Samuel 4:17)

You want to write these Scriptures down and go look at them. Put them in the margin of your Bible if they.re not there already. But in verse 12 He says, “„But now go to My place which was in Shiloh, where I made My name dwell at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people…..” (Jeremiah 7:12)

Well if you and I were to go to Shiloh there.s nothing there. There.s just some rocks. That.s all that is left in Shiloh, because God judged. Listen to what He says. “„And now, because you have done all these things,. declares the LORD, „…I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear…I called…but you did not answer..” (Jeremiah 7:13) So look. Go look at Shiloh.

Now these are the scriptures I want you to write down Joshua 18:1 because that tells you that that.s where the tent of meeting, the tabernacle was ah, erected. Then in Judges 18:31, I want us to go there because you find them having a false god there. In Judges chapter 18, verse 31 the tribe of Dan has got a false god. And so in verse 31 it says,
“So they set up for themselves Micah.s graven image which he had made, all the time that the house of God was at Shiloh.” (Judges 18:31) So instead of leaving Dan, which was up north and going down to Shiloh to worship, they just turned to their false god.

That upset God.

All right, then the next place that you see it is 1 Samuel chapter 1, verse 3 where Elkanah is going with his wife Hannah to make the sacrifices at Shiloh and Hannah.s the one that gives birth to Samuel. Then you look at 1 Samuel chapter 4, verses 3-4, and let.s go to that because I want you to see that. In chapter 4 in verses 3 to 4, it says, “When the people came into the camp…,” and this is because they have lost the battle. The Philistines are spread out against the Israelites in a battle. And Israel is defeated by the Philistines, by the enemy. And so “[When the people came into the camp,] the elders of Israel said, „Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh…,.” from the tabernacle, “„…the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies.. So the people sent to Shiloh…from there they carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts who sits above the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of [the LORD].” (1 Samuel 4:3-4)

Now listen, these guys are scoundrels. These guys are grabbing the best of the meat, and they.re eating it. And they.re eating the fat, and the fat belongs to the Lord when the people bring their sacrifices. (See 1 Samuel 2:12-16) These guys are sleeping with the women when they come to the house of worship. They.re sleeping with them. (See 1 Samuel 2:22)

I mean you.ve heard about it. You.ve heard about pastors that have seduced, and priests that have seduced, and it.s made you mad. And you look at the wounds of the people afterwards.

And so then it says, “As the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted….” (1 Samuel 4:5) It.s there. The Philistines thought “Oh, we.re not gonna make it now because the ark of the Lord is there.” What they didn.t know was the ark of the Lord
might have been there, but these people were not worshipping God as they should have worshiped Him.

And so consequently, what you read in chapter 5 of 1 Samuel is, “Now the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.” (1 Samuel 5:1) And they put the ark of God in their temple, and their gods fall over. (See 1 Samuel 5:2-4)

What.s happening? They are trusting in deceptive words. They.re treating their religion, their worship as the sure guarantee that God.s got to be with them, and they.re not living righteously. Oh, doesn.t it make you want to examine your life?

So watch what God says. He says in verse 15 of chapter 7, “„I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, all the offspring of Ephraim..” (Jeremiah 7:15) What is He saying? As I got rid of the Northern Kingdom, as I sent them into captivity under the Assyrians is what He.s referring to. He says, “„[As for you, I will cast them out as I.ve cast out your brothers, all the offspring of Ephraim.] As for you, [don.t] pray for this people…..” (Jeremiah 7:15-16)

He turns to Jeremiah and He says, “Jeremiah, don.t pray for these people. Don.t cry for these people Jeremiah.” Why? Because God, as we saw in verse 24 of chapter 9, God is a God of lovingkindness, yes. But He is a God of justice and He is a God of righteousness and His justice demands that sin be punished. His righteousness requires His justice.

And so He.s saying, “„[Don.t pray for these people. Don.t] lift up [or] cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me; for I do not hear you..” I.m not going to hear you. Don.t pray for these people. And then He says, “„[Don.t] you…see what [they.re] doing…?.” Look at them, “„…in the streets of Jerusalem..” Look at what they.re doing. He says, “„The children gather wood…the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes [to] the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods in order to spite Me..” (Jeremiah 7:16-18)

He says, “Look at what these people are doing. These are My people. And they.re all gathering together, and they.re making bread cakes to the queen of heaven.” Now you know
why I remember this verse so well?

I remember it because a big time Christian communicator that.s all over Christian television. And he was teaching one day, teaching, I put quotes around it. And he was teaching something that was heresy. It was not according to the Word of God. It was a revelation that he had. And this man was teaching if you want the anointing of God then you.ve got to have a leader. Now what does that imply?

That implies that you.re not a priest unto God, that the only way that you can get a blessing is to have a leader, and how about him?

So he says, “Listen, let me show you this.” So he runs some Scriptures. One of the Scriptures was this, “„The children gather [the] wood…the fathers kindle the fire…..” (Jeremiah 7:18) “See, see if you want a fire kindled, if you want the fire of God in your life then it.s the fathers that kindle it. The children can only gather the wood. The fathers have to kindle it.” I just died. I thought, “You have deceived these people. You have taken the precious Word of God, and you have distorted it in order to make your point. And your point is in order to get the people to follow you.”

It broke my heart. And He says, “„Do they spite Me?. declares the LORD. „Is it not themselves [that] they spite, to their own shame?.” (Jeremiah 7:19)

Now listen, listen to me very carefully. When you are deceived, and you follow deception, deception is going to result in shame. And this is what you see, and you.re gonna see the word again. You.re gonna see “shame, shame, shame”. You.re gonna see them in chapter 9 wailing because of their shame, because deception leads to a lie, and a lie leads to destruction, and that leads to shame.

And what you.re gonna see is okay, this is shame because you were not ashamed of what you were doing. Precious One, Precious One, when anybody gets on television and they have done what is wrong, and they don.t talk about how it wounds the heart of God, how it goes against the holiness of God, and they don.t name it as sin, then you.re listening to the wrong person. God is a holy a God. We.ll talk about it more in just a minute.

We.re talking about deception and as you can tell, I am all fired up. Welcome back, Beloved. I.m fired up because I want you to understand the end of deception. The end of deception is your shame. The end of deception is also the judgment of God. Because you see, lies have to be exposed. You cannot live a lie, and not reap the consequences.

Just remember that. Listen to me carefully, “„…be [ye] sure your sin will find you out..” (Numbers 32:23) You cannot live a lie and get away with it. It will be exposed. I mean all you have to do is watch the news. All you have to do is see how God brings down one political figure after another or one athlete after another as all of a sudden their secret life is being exposed. Or all of a sudden these people that were heroes to others are now smoking marijuana, or they.re getting drunk, or they.re picked up on drunk driving. It brings shame.

Those people are deceived. They think that this is the way to live. God goes on to say, “Therefore thus says the Lord…,” and I.m in Jeremiah chapter 7, verse 20. “…[Says the Lord] GOD, „Behold, My anger and My wrath will be poured out on this place…..” I.m gonna pour out My anger. I.m gonna pour out My wrath on this place, on Jerusalem, on the temple of the Lord. Do you know why? I.m going to pour it out “„…on man and…beast and…trees of the field…on the fruit of the ground; and it will burn and [it won.t] be quenched..” (Jeremiah 7:20) His wrath is like one of those fires that all of a sudden takes course and just moves and devours acres and acres of wildlife and green and that. This is what God is saying. Why does God have to do this?

Because God is righteous. Because God is just. You say, “But I thought He was love.” Yes He is, but He.s never just love alone. And love desires your highest good. And if love desires your highest good then, Beloved, what you have to know, and what you have to understand is that if love desires your highest good He can.t continue to let you walk in deception because deception leads to shame and destruction. And so this is what He says. Listen to what He goes on to say.

“Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, „Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat flesh..” He says, “„…I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices..” (Jeremiah 7:21-22) When I got ready to deliver them out of the land of Egypt I didn.t say, “OK, now I.m God, and these are the sacrifices I want, and these are the burnt offerings I want.”

No, God said, “Obey Me.” God said, “Obey Me.” And this is a key word. And I circle “obey” with a blue fine point pen. And it.s a blue circle. It.s, it.s “did not obey” I put a slash through it. Now watch what He says. “„[This is My commandment,] …this is what I commanded them, saying, “Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way [that] I [have] command you…,”.” He says, and “„“…it [will] be well with you.”.”

He says, “„Yet they did not obey…,.” blue circle with a slash. “„…[They did not obey they did not] incline their ear…,.” He says to listen to Him. They “„…walked [after] their…counsels…..” (Jeremiah 7:23-24)

They weren.t listening to God, because see if you reject truth you.re gonna believe something. Everybody has to believe something. So many times we set our own standards. You can find some mighty mean, cruel people because they have a twisted thinking because of the mean and cruel things that were done to them.

And so He goes on to say, “„Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but [they] walked [after] their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their…heart, [they] went backward…..” That.s right. They went backward. When you start going backward instead of forward what are you gonna do? You.re gonna fall. You.re gonna fall.

He says “„Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets, daily rising early and sending them..” (Jeremiah 7:24-25)

I would get up early, is what He.s saying. Now He never goes to sleep. He doesn.t slumber. He doesn.t sleep. (See Psalms 121:4) But it.s like okay, I.ve got to get the message out.

Send them My prophet. Send them Hosea. Send them Naham. Send them Micah. “…What does [God] require of you but to do justice…to [live righteously, etc.]….” (Micah 6:8) I sent My prophets. I would send them early to you, early. A long time ago I was sending you prophets telling you what.s about to come on you. It.s so bad that I.m telling Jeremiah he can.t pray for you because it.s so bad because you.ve crossed the line.

And then He says, “„Yet they did not listen to Me or incline their ear, but [they] stiffened their neck; [and] they did more evil than their fathers..” (Jeremiah 7:26) In other words, the sin just got worse and worse.

And if you study the history of the United States of America that.s exactly what you see. I cannot believe, I can absolutely cannot believe what is happening in our country. I cannot believe even the things that were submitted to the Super Bowl in 2009, to be on the Super Bowl. And they were absolute pornography, absolute pornography.

He says, “„You shall speak all these words to them…,.” and He.s talking to Jeremiah, “„…but they will not listen to you…..” Now remember we.re marking “listen” with a green ear. And if it.s “not listen” we.re putting a slash through there. “„…You shall call to them, but they will not answer you..” (Jeremiah 7:27)

Speaking of calling, if you haven.t gotten our free download study guide, if you have not contacted us, go to “preceptsforlife.com;” “preceptsforlife.com” and communicate with us.

So He says, “„…You shall call…them, but they will not answer you..” He.s talking to Jeremiah. “„You shall say to them, “This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the LORD their God or accept correction; truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.”.”

Now I told you in our last weeks. lesson that that truth is faithfulness. There.s no faithfulness. He says, “„“Cut off your hair and cast it away…take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath...” (Jeremiah 7:27-29)

In other words you are a people that are going to experience My wrath. I.ve been speaking to your fathers. I.ve been speaking, and speaking, and speaking and now it.s over.
It.s over. You.re going to experience My wrath because you.ve gotten nothing but worse and worse and worse.

“„For the sons of Judah have done [what] is evil in My sight,. declares the LORD, „they have set [up] their detestable things in the house which is called by My name…..” They have put the statues to the sun gods. They have put the Asherah pole in there. He says, “„…to defile it. They have built…high places [to] Topheth, which is in the valley of…Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, and it did not come into My mind..” (Jeremiah 7:30-31) They.re offering their children to false gods. We.ll talk about it in our next program.

Life to the full ~ Joyce Meyer

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10

My husband Dave once did one of the wisest things I've seen. Before we entered full-time ministry he worked as an engineer. He was offered a promotion that included a pay raise and a lot of prestige. But he turned it down. At first I was angry with him. I thought he was making a big mistake. Didn't he want to climb the corporate ladder? Wasn't he the best person for the job?

He explained that he had watched the other men in that position. They had to travel extensively, and they were constantly saddled with unreasonable deadlines that put them under tremendous stress. "That is not the way I want to live," Dave said. He chose the position that allowed him to stick to his core values—commitment to family, and comfort with self—rather than chasing corporate power so others would look up to him.

Besides, why choose a higher paycheck if you just spend it on doctor bills to relieve your stress-induced illnesses? Job stress causes as much illness in this country as smoking and lack of exercise. Like those things, it kills. Do whatever you need to do to make sure you fully enjoy the life He has provided for you. Sometimes saying no takes more courage than saying yes.

You can take this concept beyond the work arena. Removing all the things from your schedule that aren't bearing good fruit will greatly reduce your stress level and enable you to truly enjoy the things you choose to concentrate on.
