Leadership: Are you a God-selected leader? (79-5)~Barry Werner

Are you a God-selected leader? (79-5)

God often chooses unlikely leaders. Most of society would choose the standout, more outgoing, even flashy leader. We will tolerate a little arrogance if that adds to the charisma of the individual. God does not look at leaders the same way. This is good news for most of us that are managing from the middle and are not leadership superstars. Read Judges 7:16-25.

Why does God choose unlikely leaders? The Maxwell Leadership Bible gives the following reasons in the leadership notes:

  • To catch the attention of the world
  • To bring honor to Himself
  • To keep the message simple
  • To prompt reliance upon Him, not people
  • To fill us with His power.

Godly leaders can be used by God. Prideful, arrogant leaders can relax; they won’t be receiving the God-sized assignments and may even be sent home before the real action begins. The likelihood of prideful, arrogant leaders being used by God (except as a bad example) is fairly low.

God-selected leaders may not fit society’s picture of a leader but they will fit exactly into God’s plan and be effective as long as they keep their focus on the One who selected them.

Daniel 5:20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.
