Al-Shabab militants raid UN base in Somalia
A hardline Islamist Somali militant group has taken over a United Nations compound in the south of the country. The fighters from the al-Shabab group, which is linked to al-Qaeda, disarmed UN staff at the base in Wajid near Baidoa, a BBC reporter says. The fighters seized food supplies from the World Food Programme, as well as other equipment such as computers and the local airstrip.  

Obama heads to Prague to sign arms deal
US President Barack Obama's vision of a world without nuclear arms moves closer to reality on Thursday when he and President Dmitry Medvedev sign a pivotal treaty aimed at sharply paring US and Russian arsenals while working to repair soured relations. Obama has not been able to deliver on all of the nuclear aspirations he outlined in Prague just a year ago — visions on disarmament that helped earn him the Nobel Peace Prize.
