simply asked them, "What do you have?" ~ Mike MacIntosh

Then His disciples answered Him, "How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?" He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven."
Mark 8:4-5

"How many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked this simple question of His disciples when they let Him know that there was no food around to feed the multitudes of people. No resources were to be had, they told Him. But little-to-no resources are a storehouse full in Jesus' eyes. It's an example, once again, of how the disciples didn't quite understand who Jesus was, or what He wanted to do for the world. But with patience and compassion, Jesus simply asked them, "What do you have?" And I believe that this is the very same question the Lord is asking you: What do you have that can be used for Him, and how much are you willing to give?

The Lord wants to use you to make an impact on people for His glory. You may look at your situation, though, and not see a lot you can do. Finances are tight and things are literally week-to-week in your home. But Jesus is asking for just a little bit. You know, the Bible tells us that by just giving a cup of cold water in the name of Christ, you receive blessings beyond what you can imagine (Mark 9:41). Think about it. Have you ever reached out to somebody and said, "Here is a cup of cold water. I'd like to just give it to you in the name of Jesus Christ." Just giving someone a drink is all Jesus is asking for some of you. For others who have been given more finances, He is asking for the same heart-felt giving.

What are you doing with what the Lord has given you? How long has it been since you have said, "I'm going to write a check here to help for this situation or need.” One year in December we went to the Welfare Department in San Diego, and we asked for the names and addresses of the 400 poorest people that they served. That Christmas, through the sacrificial giving of 20 of our home fellowship groups, we were able to give these 400 families a wonderful Christmas. We gave them a Christmas tree, presents, and a huge turkey dinner. It didn't take hundreds of dollars from each person to make this happen. It was just a few dollars from each family along with the heart-felt dedication to make it happen. And that's what serving Jesus is all about. A love for God brings about a love for others.

What do you have? That is all He wants. What is God asking you to do with the little you have? Give from your heart and He'll take care of the rest.
