Abide in Christ

For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Ephesians 5:5

This is an important verse, because Paul was speaking to the church in Ephesus, the Christians. If this letter was written to the church, then I cannot agree with the teaching of eternal security. I have to disagree with the Calvinists, not just because of this one verse, but because there are so many Scriptures concerning the doctrine of abiding in Jesus Christ.

What does it mean to abide in Christ? We are to walk according to God’s Word. We do not look at God’s commands and see how close we can come to the line before we fall into sin. We walk close to God and far from the ways of the world.

We are to abide and walk closely with Jesus Christ every day. It is not weekly, monthly or yearly, but daily. We cannot be Sunday Christians. Our walk with the Lord should be every day of the week, whether we are in church or alone. No matter where we are or what we are doing, Christ is with us.

The best thing about abiding in Christ is my security in Him. I never worry about losing my salvation, because I am secure in Christ; I am abiding in Him and walking in Him. When you are not really walking with God, and you are compromising, then you are walking in the flesh.

When you walk in the flesh, you are going to defend your actions. When you walk in the Spirit, you can rest assured all is well with your soul. You do not have to defend your life in Christ.
He who excuses himself accuses himself.
