US Ambassador Daniel Shapiro greeted Clinton

Four issues expected to dominate Jerusalem talks: Egypt, Iran, the diplomatic process with the Palestinians, and Syria; US secretary of state also slated to meet PA Prime Minister Fayyad.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Jerusalem Sunday evening for a 24-hour visit, landing in the country just as White House National Security Adviser Tom Donilon was leaving. US Ambassador Daniel Shapiro and his wife Julie Fisher greeted Clinton as she disembarked her flight at Ben Gurion airport.

Clinton and Mursi in Cairo, Egypt

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has voiced support for a "full transition to civilian rule" in Egypt, at the start of a visit to Cairo.

Supporters of new President Mohammed Mursi are in a stand-off with generals who have ruled since President Hosni Mubarak was ousted last year.

Speaking after talks with Mr Mursi, Mrs Clinton said the situation required "compromise and real politics".

She also praised Egypt's military council for its interim leadership.

Christians snub Cairo meeting with Clinton,
claim US backs Islamists

Prominent Christian Egyptians snubbed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday because they feel the U.S. administration favors Islamist parties over secular and liberal forces in society at the expense of Egypt's 8 million Christians.

The critical theme was repeated by others Sunday in Cairo and Alexandria despite Clinton denying U.S. interference in Egyptian elections.

The politicians, businessmen and clerics who snubbed Clinton were supposed to take part in meetings between Clinton and influential members of civil society.

Hillary Clinton’s plea falls flat in Egypt

CAIRO — The head of Egypt’s military took a tough line Sunday on the Muslim Brotherhood, warning that he won’t let the fundamentalist group dominate the country, only hours after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton urged him to work with Egypt’s elected Islamist leaders.

Clinton’s visit to Egypt underscored the difficulty Washington faces in trying to wield its influence amid the country’s stormy post-Hosni Mubarak power struggles. Protesters chanting against the U.S. - sometimes reaching several hundred - sprung up at several sites Clinton visited this weekend. On Sunday, protesters threw tomatoes, water bottles and shoes at her motorcade as she left a ceremony marking the opening of a new U.S. consulate in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

"The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees. He who fritters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day. If God is not first in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, He will be in the last place the remainder of the day." - E. M. Bounds
