  Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

Word Of Knowledge

NKJV Notes by Pastor Bob Caldwell

I. Introduction

This gift is the process whereby God shares with His servant knowledge that is needed to be able to best serve in a given situation. This knowledge finds it's source in God in whom are "hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Col. 2:3) Many times scriptures reveal how this gift is combined with other gifts of the Holy Spirit. Of course this source of knowledge should never be seen as a justification to set aside the supremacy of scripture. The scriptures are a means that God in general uses to communicate His knowledge to mankind. (2 Tim. 2:15)

II. Uses of the Gift of the Word of Knowledge.

A. Examples of the Use of This Gift in Scripture.

  2.  John 2:24-25 - Jesus knew the heart condition of all men.
  3.  John 4:18 - Jesus knew the personal life of the Samaritan woman.
  4.  Matthew 21:2-3 - Jesus knows the location of the donkey He will ride on for His triumphal entry.
  5.  Luke 22:10-13 - Jesus knows the circumstances that will transpire in the future to help his disciples locate the place for the Passover.

  11.  1 Samuel 9:15-16; 10:2; 21,22 - Samuel knows where Saul is hiding and where his father's lost donkeys are.

III. Conclusion

As can be seen from the examples referred to above, God uses this gift of the word of knowledge as a resource for His people so they have the information they need to be effective in doing God's will and work. As a child of God you can pray to God for this supernatural knowledge to help you as you face challenges at home, at work, and in the ministry.
