Here's the Evidence

Faith is something that can't be seen. It's invisible, and consequently, its existence is often questioned. A person can claim to have faith, but on an earthly level, it's easier to prove the existence of the material than the immaterial. You can sooner prove that you're licensed to drive a car than you can prove your faith, because again, faith can't be seen.

Or can it?

Here's what we come to discover in God's Word concerning faith. Although it is invisible and has intangible qualities, its effects aren't invisible. Faith can be seen by what it produces in people's actions. There are certain evidences that mark faith's existence.

For example, in the verse above Paul tells us that faith will express itself through love. Where there is genuine faith in God, there will also be love for others. Moreover, in his second letter, Peter gives us a list of other evidences that follow in faith's wake:

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. (2 Peter 1:5-7 NKJV)

Where there is faith, there's also going to be virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and of course, love. The bottom line is that there's going to be growth in spiritual things. Faith begets. It doesn't stand alone in a vacuum but always manages to increase in ways that will stand out in the way someone lives.

Is faith something that can be seen? Yes and no. It doesn't fall into the realm of the material or tangible. Yet it does evidence itself through things like love, self-control, and perseverance.

Be bold enough to ask yourself if there is any evidence of faith in your life. Allow the Lord to show you if any adjustment is needed, and pray that He would increase your faith.

Think About It…

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
