Trust and Obey

“Six years you shall sow your land and gather in its produce, but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave, the beasts of the field may eat.”

Exodus 23:10-11

Six years you work the land, and on the seventh year you let it rest. You take a whole year vacation and let the land rest for a year. Why? God gave them the reason. He said you work the land six years, and on the seventh year you let it rest, so the poor could eat from the fields. They would be provided for.

They did not do it, because they lacked faith in God. They did not trust God. That is why they worked the land. God was going to provide for them, but in their minds, they thought, “What if God does not really provide?” It is just like when they were in the wilderness, and they wanted meat to eat. God said, “Okay, I will give you meat.” Then the meat came and what happened? They started hoarding the meat. So, God said, “Okay, if you want to be that way, I am going to give you meat until you are sick of meat.” The blessing turned out to be a cursing.

When you do not listen to God, you get yourself in big trouble. Whatever you say, whatever you do, it is the Lord who leads and guides. If you are really listening, then you are not going to have problems. If you are not a good listener, you are going to have many problems. God has good reasons for every decision He makes. We just have to trust and obey.

Trust God even when the pieces don’t seem to fit.
