One Thousand Years: Genesage "Caleb's find" (Chp 8:3)

One Thousand Years
Genesage
“Caleb’s find"
(Chp 8:3)
Old timers sure spent a lot of time beating around,
Caleb looked back at the Rose,
the bush,
as his parents used to say, and he chuckled at his own joke.
"What's funny?"
asked Thomas a little perturbed.
Disturbed that maybe Caleb had found him out or caught him in a lie.
"You were beating around the bush."
Caleb stated good naturedly. With no ounce of ulterior motive in him. Thomas might have reacted to someone else but he could not stay angry or mad especially when he knew Caleb was an innocent.
Caleb meant it to be humor. Right now it wasn’t funny.
Caleb had looked back at what remained of Rose when he said it.
He couldn't have timed it better. But by sheer coincidence Caleb looked back at Rose at the same time.
Thomas saw where Caleb was looking. It was just too happenstance to be planned and Thomas knew Caleb well enough to accept his innocence.
But Thomas' guiltiness was coming to the surface.
The blood drained out of Thomas face.
He looked back at the remains, lifeless dusty and dry. He looked down at the petals. So soft, so gentle, he remembered how tender and how innocent Rose had been.
He recalled her touch, her smell, the very caress of his soul and the words themselves as she died.
"I forgive you”
The fire began to burn low with less pooping and crackling.
Turning slowly from a brighter yellow to a dull reddish hue it was evident the fire was going out. Hardly any smoke was visible now and the night dark would soon envelop the flames.
In cloud cover with no stars it got dark. But under cloud cover with no light on earth to shine up and reflect off of the clouds …..down below like the old world city lights had;
Night Dark [1]meant pitch black.
Don’t go out in the dark had a whole new meaning when there was little to generate light, and less to be reflected.
There was a stirring out in the dark.
Both men could hear a soft padding moving towards them. Neither man was afraid of noises in the dark, they were curious as to what or who was approaching. Caleb stood up in the dark as if to go look but Thomas sat next to the fire poking it with his stick.
He just sat there watching the sparks fly up thinking.
The branch he held had once been Rose. The thought crossed his mind but he didn’t want to dwell on that. The noise was getting louder and sounded like someone walking.
The noise of approaching steps increased and soon there appeared a figure.
Instead of a person it turned out to be a horse.
The steed that walked out of the dark into the light was magnificent. Golden like a palomino it was not easy to put a type on the type this was.  Caleb assumed this horse was “SpiritKind” because of the wings that trailed back revealing this Golden horse could fly.
SpiritKind were the Angelic that God had made in Creation when He created all the “Kinds”. This Angelic SpiritKind appeared like a “horse” except it looked like it had more than a horse should have. And there was something…different about it. Something you could not see, but could feel.
The wings on this “horse” were not immediately obvious as they did not appear extended. Instead they were folded close to the body. They seemed to be resting on its back.
He? Might have had his wings crossed or folded like a person crossing his arms when standing and thinking. Again one of Caleb’s “gifts” seem to let Caleb know this. Once thought of, Caleb knew it was true.
Caleb was immediately interested. He had heard some communities had regular visits from Angelic and AnimalKind.
It was rumored there were several different “kinds” that Eben had forgone bringing to the community so far.  Caleb knew it was because he was protecting the community but there were times when Caleb thought Eben was too careful.
He knew his parents wanted to go backwards and not learn anything new, but that was an awesome, real flying horse. Of course by practical experience, Caleb didn’t know if horses could fly or not, he remembered his mom saying something about a horse fly but he wasn’t sure if that was the same thing.
Hers seemed to be smaller when she talked about it.
The Genifers First Generation children, loved new experiences. They seemed to thrive on all things about them, as though a tie that binds connected them to the land.  Often many of them would get together to discuss what new adventures they had gone on or what new 'kind' they had discovered.
Some of the Genifers had gone far from Eben’s Community, Bethleben, discovering hundreds of other communities all different in some ways, but much the same as theirs.
Eager to discover what they could find on their own…, they were often like insatiable sponges full of the wonder and vigor of life.
To this younger generation the older ones from before the Tribulation seemed archaic and foreign.
The Genifers felt a cultural gap that was deepening through the years as on one side, the Oldsters seemed to get more withdrawn from the here and now looking for a way to have back then and there.
Caleb was already thinking about what he was going to tell Apple and the others Genifers, but he didn’t even think his parents would really care about meeting a horse.
He was excited and couldn't help staring fascinated.
The Winged Horse walked past both men over to where the remains of Rose had been.
The horse bowed his head and nuzzled the area with his nose. The petals were evident but with mane flowing down the side of his neck the horse concentrated on where the "stock" of Rose had been. The sound of snuffling was loud.
Tossing his head up and down with golden "hair" flying the horse kept searching.
He was looking for something and seemingly not finding what he was looking for he continued to flick his head up till finally he paused in a moment in silence.
Suddenly arching it’s mighty neck slightly, one long trumpeting blast  sounded. Not quite resembling a neighing, it could very well have been a trumpet had they not seen where it came from.
It was loud and it was long.
It shattered the dark with pleading words not quite heard and not really understood. But there were words there.
When the horse finished he turned back to the fire.
